I tried my hand at compiling groups, companies, organizations and alliances that are active in, around or relative to Aster City. It's probably not finished because I'm sure I missed some things, but otherwise I figured it'd be good to have them all listed in one place for reference.
ASTER CITY
Aster City exists as a place for humans and non humans to live alongside each other. Its current mayor is Toshiro Reizo, a human/kitsune hybrid who inherited the position from his father after passing in an accident. The city itself is about 50 years old, having been officially founded by Toshiro's grandfather when Toshrio's parents first got together. They simply wanted a safe place to raise their children. The peaceful sentiment would attract many other beings with magic and powers, most of which also desire to co-exist with humans.
ORGANIZATIONS
The Templars - A collective of knights who exist to help people. Unknown to most of the populace, they've lately been convinced that magical creatures are dangerous or inferior, and must be separated from humanity. Some Templars are malicious and hateful, while others may be purely good and genuinely believe their cause will help everyone. A small group of Templars actually attacked the local high school in search for a half dragon thought to have been hiding among the students. The incident resulted in student injuries and the death of the principal. This has left a bad public image on the Templars, who have denounced the group as rogues acting alone.
Aster High School - The city's main high school. It is accepting of all kinds, from normal humans to super or magical beings to even androids. This applies to students and faculty alike. While things have mostly gone back to normal after the Templars' aforementioned attack, there have been rumors that the ghost of the principal has been haunting the school... Thankfully, a small group of students and faculty have taken it upon themselves to secretly put his soul to rest.
Aster City Police Department - The city's acting police force. The force is virtually all normal humans. This is because of several incidents in the past involving the abuse of powers or magic. This resulted in strict regulation that discouraged these abilities while on duty. Without such powers, magic or equipment to stand on equal footing with some of the city's threats, the police department is all but neutered.
Adventurer Guild - A guild for groups to gather and quest, or even simply learn from others. It's comprised of many types of races. Its guildmaster is Marcus.
Aegis Wing - A bounty hunting group that focuses mostly on bringing criminals or suspects in, rather than killing anyone. Its main focus is to protect other people. It is run by its founder, Chris Engle.
COMPANIES
Emmons Electronics - A high tech electronics store owned by the Emmons family. Their daughter, Amara Emmons, possesses electricity powers and a knack for invention. Unbeknownst to everyone but Amara and her friends, it hosts a secret hideout in the basement.
Prairie Company - An oil company owned by the Prairie family. They're one of the suppliers of fuel to the city.
Kirin Canyon - An company for media and entertainment mostly aimed at girls and women. It produces TV shows, musicians, models and the like. It's an open secret that its CEO, Marianne Rosales, is a retired superheroine. It's a better kept secret that she lends assistance to current day heroines.
Heliosoft - A company that provides magic infused technology. It is said to be good for the environment. Their wares are programmed to cast magic, assisting those who can't cast magic themselves. For safety reasons, mass produced models aren't as potent as magic wielded by hand, but the company does have the capacity to make special items. Such specially made equipment has been provided to other groups such as Kirin Canyon and Aegis Wing. It's CEO is Alexander Aurelius, while the Aster City branch is run by his son, Leonardo Aurelius.
Cross Corps - A company that promotes fitness and militant training. Unknown to most, its a front for a private mercenary agency. It's owner, Vincent Forte, is a retired hero.
Gaia Labs - A pharmaceutical company that researchers superpowers. Its current owner, Lucas Hale, is a retired hero seeking to treat his malfunctioning powers. Over the years, he has become resentful of the people he once fought to protect, and now seeks to weed out the weak. The company secretly develops superpowered beings (such as "Project 5" (aka Jade)) as a means of research, though Lucas himself desires to use them to accelerate natural selection...
Bolton Industrial - A robotics company that supplies machinery to other companies. It is owned by Lance Bolton.
ALLIANCES
The Guardians - A group initially formed by students as a direct response to the Templar attack on their high school. They seek to do good and protect others and their city as a whole. They meet up in the Emmons' Electronic Store basement.
The Invisibles - An online group created by the mysterious Hacker Zero. They're an anonymous gang that exists to help others. It was initially created to deal with a growing gang problem. After the problem was handled, the group continued to grow and became a large network spanning to other locations outside of Aster City.
The Unseen - A secret group that specializes in gathering intel and trading secrets. It is headed by a figure who goes by Haddek. All of its members wear masks of some sort. Their hideout is located in a lavish gambling den deep underground.
Animal Kingdom - A mysterious group of near feral humanoid beasts. They're actually humans who've been turned into beasts via a mysterious serum. This serum was created by Mary Maddox, their alpha, who seeks to completely destroy her husband, Johnathan O'Connor. They reside in the forest. They are destructive and difficult for Mary to control. Some even challenge her for her authority, but they tend to listen to her when she asserts her power. Mary has even applied the serum to herself, but can suppress her feral form with a temporary antidote in order to attend to human affairs.
"The Family" - A large group of normal humans populated around the entire city in small pockets of communities, families, or even standalone people. They are all people who have been helped in some way by Johnathan O'Connor, a psychologist. They appear as normal, every day citizens, but have an undying loyalty to Johnathan. Their feelings towards him are so strong that they will do literally anything for him if he requests it of them. This can range from small harmless favors to committing crimes, or even killing themselves - all without hesitation. Some exceptions exist, but these are exceedingly rare cases. Johnathan himself is not an outwardly malicious man; he simply lacks a conscious and sees his actions as studies of human nature.
The Magic Tower - A magical tower concealed by an illusionary spell. It is located in the forest, though its owner can teleport it elsewhere for safety reasons. It is home to a powerful mage only known as Sorceress. She only takes in those she trusts and teaches them in the ways of magic.
The Hollowed Oak - A long standing circle of druids led by Farren Feine, their current Archdruid. They reside in the forest in a grove concealed by illusionary magic. They were formerly known as the Hallowed Oak due to worshiping a magic oak tree that housed their guardian spirit. Long ago, the spirit used up most of the tree's energy to end the circle's infighting. She did this by sealing herself away alongside a growing threat of magical monsters. Only a hollow tree stump remains of the oak. However, it seems that the seal has started breaking down...
Serenity Grove - A bustling village in the forest. Its people were believed to have come from the druids when the circle was initially known as the Hallowed Oak. Self-sufficient and close to nature, they are led by a young man named Mikko.
The Moonglow Clan - A circle of peaceful mages who fled their realm to avoid persecution. They live in a small village in the forest. Though they look human, they originated from the Kingdom of Duskfall, whose inhabitants have a natural aptitude for magic. They are characterized with pointed ears, brightly colored or luminescent hair, and small celestial symbols on their upper cheeks.
GANGS
Black Dragons - An old gang notorious for violence and aggression. Their leader, Damien Garcia, was sent to prison 8 years ago along with several other gang members. After serving his time, the gang has recently resurfaced with ill intent. They reside in a secret underground bunker.
Ammo Clan - A decade old gang focused on improving their fighting skills. Originally founded and led by Aedan Devitt, it is currently led by Casey Calhoun. The group is mostly normal humans. They tend to keep to themselves and goof off, claiming to never start fights with other gangs. They reside in one of the warehouses on the docks. Their symbol is an anarchy sign stylized with the initials "AC."
Wild Fangs - A neutral gang mostly comprised of humans who've gained powers or alternate forms. Led by werewolf Diego Lopez, with his vampire friend Lucia Churchill. They normally fight in defense of humans and hybrids alike, which is a main point of rivalry between them and the Red Devils. They reside in a manor in the forest.
Red Devils - An aggressive gang mostly comprised of non human races and magical beings. They tend to have tense relations with humans, and thus tend to target humans or those who side with humans. They're led by Kazuya Ono, a half-oni who harbors a disdain for humans. They reside in an abandoned factory in the industrial district.
Legion of Love - An all girls gang comprised of normal humans. They're led by Venus D'Amore, a former idol and dance performer whose career was ended by a scandal. The gang exists to fawn over Venus, whose power is to gain physical strength the more people love her. Her followers aren't above committing a few petty crimes to please their "queen," and Venus is perfectly fine with it. Men are forbidden from joining the gang, but Venus welcomes them as subscribers on her online streams.
OTHER
Cyberspace - The Internet. Characters can interact through video games, streams or voice calls, but it isn't out of the question to find other beings living in the web... Such examples are Ghost, a sentient AI girl, and Blackout, a former human turned living virus.
Spirit World - The "other side" of life. It's possible the deceased might be found here, but maybe one is more likely to find spirits from other planes or realms.
Yarkona - A dead planet that was once full of magic. Its queen, Atalanta, evacuated what she could of the populace, who now reside in the forests outside of Aster City.
Elysium - A kingdom of robots located far away on an artificial island. It's composed entirely of sentient robots. Many if not all of them are refugees from human violence, so all inhabitants range from wary to distrusting of them. Their trusted ruler, King Ky, dreamt of robotkind coexisting with humanity, and hoped to one day fully integrate with them. Currently, King Ky was believed to have been killed by his closest friend and fellow battle veteran, Cipher, who exiled himself in response.
Starlight City - A mainland city on the coast. Inspired by Aster City's example, it was founded by King Ky in another attempt to have robots and humans coexist with each other. It began with Elysium refugees and robots who were willing to interact with humanity again, and has since become a successful city. It is an incredibly high tech city that is mostly populated with robots, though humans and other races exist as well. While Starlight City has acted as a bridge between Elysium and the outside world, it has since become more independent from Elysium.
The Shadowstep - A secret organization dedicated to overseeing the world's affairs. It's said to be descended from a centuries old clan of ninja that once sealed off a great evil. They've since become an intelligence gathering network, but aren't above secretly intervening in world events. Kiai Seigishi is a retired member who currently lives in the city, while Fei Yen is a current agent who is investigating a threat believed to be hiding in the city.
