Personality:
Diego is a gruff but well meaning man who dislikes the superficial obsessions and corruption of society. He doesn't hate people, but is easily annoyed by more frivolous hobbies, preferring function and practicality above all else. While he might be friendlier to those he knows more personally, he generally prefers to be left by himself or accompanied by a few close friends. He is constantly alert when alone, and will not hesitate to intimidate anyone he deems a threat. Much of his isolation is influenced by his once poor control over his werewolf transformation; he had previously harmed a friend in a more feral state, so he tries to be more mindful of his habits. He also tries to be secretive of his werewolf transformation in order to have a greater element of surprise against foes. He is still prone to a few feral behaviors, which tend to act up when he's stressed or angry.
Powers:
Hand to Hand Combat
Diego has a basic foundation of hand to hand combat. He was not trained and simply picked it up through naturally fighting others in self defense. His style tends to be very aggressive, balancing speed and power, though it can be a bit sloppy. The speed and power of his attacks were enhanced when he became a werewolf, though they're still unrefined.
Lycanthropy + Moonstone Necklace
Otherwise known as a werewolf. Because he received his unwilling transformation through a bite, Diego is inclined to behavior similar to the feral werewolf that bit him. This means he is prone to feral and aggressive tendencies as a werewolf. He will involuntarily shift when excited, startled, or when his adrenaline starts pumping. He is only able to control his transformation and maintain his rationale through an enchanted moonstone necklace he received from the Sorceress.
Enhanced Werewolf Senses
As a werewolf, Diego has increased strength and agility. He also has keen hearing and a stronger sense of smell, allowing him to identify or track beings by scent. These traits are also present in his human form, but they don't function as strongly as they do in werewolf form.
In combat, he is best suited for melee and especially thrives while fighting in a forest environment. He favors biting and claw attacks, the latter which he can also use for climbing. He also makes the most of his speed by running around on all fours.
He can also see in low light, but not darkness. With low-light vision, he can see outdoors on a moonlit night as well as a normal person can see during the day. If using his low-light vision and flashed with bright light, he needs a moment to adjust his sight.
Partial Transformation
Diego can transform individual body parts into werewolf form while retaining his human form, but it is a bit more precise work and thus requires more focus to do so. It is similar to doing a physical activity while trying to hold one's breath. This would be most likely for stealth or a sneak attack, like trying to pick a lock with his claws or hiding his claws behind his back. Once his adrenaline starts pumping, he can no longer restrain the transformation to one part and will fully transform.
Weaknesses:
He is good at evasive tactics for melee and unarmed combat, but magic and traditional weaponry can still hurt him; especially since he does not wear armor or protection of any kind. Silver weapons will do much more damage to him than normal and are more likely to inflict life threatening injuries on him, if not death all together.
Separating Diego from his moonstone necklace makes it more difficult for him to control himself, making him more of a liability to his allies. Nights with a full moon completely negate his moonstone necklace, and he will transform into a werewolf no matter what. During a full moon, he cannot shift back into human form until the night passes. He tends to be aggressive during these nights, but the moonstone helps to slightly curb that.
History:
Diego's life was ordinary up until the night he and his friends ventured into the deepest part of the woods. Recently, high school rumors had spoken of a large, vicious white werewolf that stalked the forest's edge. It had become a common dare to look for the beast and bring back proof of its existence, and a pair of students hoping to do just that had gone missing. The school was abuzz with all sorts of stories speculating their fate, and in all honesty: it pissed Diego off. He hadn't known them personally, but making up stories about potentially dead students left a bad taste in his mouth. So, he decided he would find out what had happened himself. Whether he was brave or stupid, he didn't care, but his two closest friends reluctantly joined him, fearing for his safety.
The trio found the two missing students, both badly injured but alive. When they attempted to help them home however, the white werewolf ambushed the group. Diego held the beast's attention, shouting at the others to escape while he tried to hold it off. As they fled, the werewolf sunk its teeth into Diego. One of his friends looked back and saw this, grimly believing he was a goner. The group was quickly cornered after Diego fell, but shortly after, a second beast appeared: Diego himself, now with a werewolf form of his own.
Diego successfully fought off the white werewolf, and the group brought the missing students to safety. His two friends marveled at his transformation, but for Diego, it quickly became a problem. He struggled to keep his feral aggression in control, and when he ended up hurting one of his friends, Diego thought it was best for him to quietly leave.
He dropped out of school and volunteered his strength to someone who promised to make good use of his new abilities. Unfortunately, Diego realized he was being used to terrorize and strongarm innocents and quickly turned on his shady employer. The werewolf nearly mauled him to death, only stopping when he noticed the blood standing out on his fur - his white fur. His fur was supposed to be brown. It was a terrible realization: the more he gave into his feral instincts, the more he would lose himself until he became the next white werewolf. Distraught, Diego left the city and fled into the woods to grimly await his fate.
As luck would have it, Diego came across a strange tower deep within the woods. When a woman stepped out of it to confront him, Diego couldn't help but attack her. Since leaving the city, he had lost control of his rationale with alarming frequency, and this time was no different. Thankfully, he was quickly subdued by the woman's powerful magic. Diego recognized this and used what little humanity he had left to plead for help with his curse before passing out. The woman, which he would only come to know as the Sorceress, took pity on Diego and granted him an enchanted moonstone necklace to help control the feral side of his transformation.
After recovering and regaining his senses, Diego thanked the woman profusely. He explained how he acquired his lycanthropy and how he had self exiled himself to the forest. He returned to the city at her encouragement, urging him to reunite with his friends. There, he would once again find them in trouble and save them at the last minute, protecting them from an angry half-oni named Kazuya. This sparked the beginning of a particularly heated rivalry between them...
With his friends safe and his sanity regained, Diego took to using his abilities to right wrongs whenever he came across them - even if not done it the most clean or heroic ways. Whether it be authority or supernatural gifts, abuse of power angers him the most. He currently resides in an old manor with Lucia, a young vampire lady he once protected and has since bonded with.
Anything else:
- He particularly enjoys fishing and often goes out fishing with one of his close friends.
- Should it ever be drawn out again, the white werewolf form is his berserker form; he would gain immense power and speed but with the inability to distinguish friend from foe.
