It had been months since Vivi started living with Daniel. When she first met him, Vivi had taken him on for harassing some girl for a fight. It wasn't the best first impression on Vivi, but it was great first impression on Daniel. He'd enjoyed it so much that he'd appointed her his own personal sparring partner! Which, while annoying at the time, ended up being a blessing in disguise for Vivi. If he hadn't found her right before she passed out in the park, well... There was a very real chance she might not have been living today. That day, Vivi learned that Daniel was more than just muscle. Beneath his fight obsession and tomfoolery was a genuinely good person. Some of his antics might've been juvenile or erratic at times, but the fact that he was more than okay with her living at his place spoke volumes to her. She'd become jaded at the thanklessness and cruelty of the world on her travels, so to meet someone willing to shelter her for free... ...Well, Vivi felt guilty. Daniel insisted that fighting him was payment enough, but she still felt she should contribute something to the household. With Dave always at work and Daniel running off to run errands or whatever his job was, it would leave Vivi alone to her own devices. It was nice that she could focus on her own training or meditation, but she told herself she'd leave after her first night of staying here. That became a week, then a month, then several months... She'd been here long enough without doing much. Vivi wanted to help. She had to. "Uh... Hey, Daniel?" She said inquisitively, knocking on his bedroom door. "I'd like to talk to you..."

These past months were among some of Daniel's favorites.
It turned out, having a woman's touch around the place was quite the unexpected boon for his apartment. Not only that, but having a sparring partner, and such a cute one at that was quite the bonus! That, and someone who gave a little more bite against his joking than Dave made things more interesting.
Yes, Daniel had made the right move in helping out Vivi. Who knew that good deeds could pay such dividends?
He was typing away at something or other on his computer, he made a conscious effort never to pay too much attention to things he did on the internet, when he heard a knock on his door, and Vivi's voice timidly coming through the wood. "Yeah, Vivs? What can I do for ya?" he asked, kicking out with his feet to push his chair across the room, and open the door. She seemed worried about something. Daniel couldn't imagine what.
Well, Daniel would just have to fix whatever it was. After all, what were friends for?

"Could... you help me find a job?"
Vivi folded her arms, shifting her weight to one leg. Though she seemed pensive, it was clear she'd been thinking about this for some time now. "I'm grateful you've let me stay here. Really. And I know you said not to worry about paying you..." She frowned. "But I feel selfish sitting here all day while you and Dave actually work. I'd like to... contribute, or something. I figured it'd be best to ask you, since..." Vivi made an odd face resembling a wince. "Well. After my previous failures to get even temporary jobs in the city..." The woman trailed off, scratching at the back of her head. They both knew how that ended up. "...I don't know. I thought maybe you might have some suggestions..."
Vivi's expression remained the same, but she couldn't help but avert her gaze from him. Of course, Daniel had been very kind to her; she'd gotten to know him better over these past few months. He probably wouldn't really judge, especially after helping her out at her lowest, but she still felt... a bit ashamed to ask for even more help after he'd already aided her for so long.

Daniel blinked in surprise.
It wasn't often that someone came up to him asking if she could being doing more work. "uh...Yeah! Yeah, I can help you out, if you're sure. Are you really sure? I don't know about you, but I think I'd prefer chilling out, and fighting now and then to working a-" Daniel cringed and gulped in an exaggerated manner, "Job. he choked out, acting as if it was a great big struggle to force out one word.
"In all seriousness, though. Are you sure, Vivs? You don't gotta worry about that kinda thing while you're here, ya know? I promise! After all, what's the point in making money, if you can't use it to help buds, acquaintances, and sparring partners?" he gave her a full salvo with a pair of finger guns. "If you're dead set on this, though, I think my job is looking to hire a cashier. I could get you that job, no problem. Unless you change your mind, of course." he left out another statement that he didn't mind supporting his friends. No need to lay it on too thick.

Vivi clicked her tongue in amusement at Daniel's little bit of theatrics. He was eccentric, maybe sometimes a bit too much so, but she'd come to appreciate his ability to find a little bit of humor in everything. It wasn't really her own style; she was rather cynical herself, but that just made it all the more refreshing.
"If you're dead set on this, though, I think my job is looking to hire a cashier. I could get you that job, no problem."
"A cashier, huh..." Vivi repeated thoughtfully, shifting her weight again. She wasn't exactly too keen on the idea, interacting with people more than she liked, but... she'd been to Daniel's job before. He took her there the day he realized just how much trouble she'd gotten herself into. A moment of self-consciousness then crossed her mind - if she showed up, would the people there remember her for that day...? It had been months since then, but the thought was still embarrassing.
Still, Daniel was his own force of personality. It was probably better for her to work at the same place as him. Even if the others did remember her and the sobbing mess she was that day, at least she could turn to him for support. She then silently cursed at herself for how much her own self-discipline had dwindled for her to be worrying about what others thought of her. The point was to make herself useful!
"...Sure." Vivi finally answered after her internal consideration. "I'm willing to try it." She paused, then quietly added, "...So long as you're there."

The second Vivi made her statement, Daniel's arm shot out, then wiggled it's way back towards him until he had two fingers placed securely on his carotid artery. Hmm. Yes. Okay, so his heart definitely skipped at least two beats. Wait a minute, his face was going a little pink. Must be bleed through of his voice. "Of course!" he barked out. "I can hang around for your shifts, pick up a lil' extra dough, teach you how to skip work when it suits ya. I'm a great teacher about stuff like that, and it wouldn't even be any problem because I do this sort of thing all the time and I- he coughed a little in an effort to regain his composure. "How about we go down there tomorrow? I'll get you the job, ain't no worry, and we'll see how you like it?" he asked. What was up with him today? He wasn't the sort of guy to get so worked up. At least, not anymore.
