Name: Azalea Reyes
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Race: Human
Home: Aster City
Alliance: Adventurer Guild
Alignment: Neutral
Friends: Echo Blackmoore, Veil Rosario, Antony "Raid" Warren
Rivals: ?
Enemies: The Order (Disbanded)
Likes: Computers, video games
Dislikes: Physical effort
Relationship: Azalea had several friends she made while on a trip to a mysterious island chain, though the most notable one was Echo, who she was surprised to find in Aster City. She's closer friends with Veil, who she keeps in contact with through online chatting and video games.
Personality:
Azalea hates putting forth physical effort and is admittedly a bit lazy, but she's gotten better about it in recent years. She tends to be a bit dry and sarcastic, though only towards or around friends who know her well; she'd rather not give others a rude first impression. She's generally rather friendly, though she has a slight temper that mostly stems from impatience. If angered, she'll try to quash it or vent online or away from others, or she risks snapping at the people she's currently around. Azalea also tends to be a bit of a sore loser, so she hates competing with other people since she knows she can't handle defeat. Other than that, Azalea considers herself a rather normal young person and much of her sarcasm in the past stemmed from the extraordinary people and events that would happen around her.
Powers:
Equipment: Magical Light Pickaxe
A lightweight one sided digging pickaxe adorned with tiny wings and a pink handle. It was primarily used for digging, though it can be used for other utility purposes such as a climbing sickle. It's also magical and allows her to transform into a magical girl, giving her several buffs that make her a competent fighter. However, Azalea dislikes the transformation and fighting herself, so she's been using the pickaxe like a wand to cast magic.
Magical Girl Form: Star Primrose
As a magical girl, Azalea is granted enhanced abilities to fight in combat. Most of these are a handful of long range magical attacks, though she can also call upon the aspects of certain animals and temporarily use their power. (These animals are specifically dinosaurs revived through a process that grants them elemental powers in the process. These are called Vivosaurs to differentiate them from the original dinosaurs.)
Unlike Chiyoko's magical girl form, Azalea's form does not rely on being purely good or just, though it does seem to be influenced by strong emotions or feelings. She also cannot use the form infinitely, but the time limit varies. It mostly depends on how much magic she uses up before the magical reserves of her pickaxe run low, which will then automatically kick her out of her form. The pickaxe will then need time to recharge its magic before she can transform again.
Magic Spells
Azalea's been studying spells in order to utilize the magical energies in her pickaxe. She's still learning, but has a small repertoire of spells she can use.
Sakura Pop - A small burst of pink flower petals that shoots from the top of her pickaxe. As an immediate spell, it does minimal to no damage and mostly serves as a distraction against foes up close. If she charges it up, it becomes a visible energy ball swirling with flower petals that does more damage. A long charge makes the flower petals razor sharp and inflicts slashing damage alongside the energy damage.
Vine Whip - A magical purple vine replaces the upper half of her pickaxe, turning it into a whip. It's good for striking at about 15 feet away and is slightly prehensile, making it good for grabbing levers, small objects, or tripping/disarming foes. She can also activate thorns on it for it to do more damage or get a better grip on something.
Spirit Link - A passive spell that links Azalea to her companion Ceros. It's mostly for conveying their emotions to each other. This way, Azalea knows how much more Ceros can take, while Ceros will more easily know when to attack or fall back.
Minor Healing - A basic spell for patching up minor wounds or stabilizing bleeding.
Animal Companion: "Ceros" (Megaloceros)
A large, pink deer with massive antlers, Ceros is a revived version of the ancient megafauna Megaloceros. Standing larger than a moose at 9 ft tall, Ceros is a sturdy creature that Azalea can ride or command in combat. It can attack with its hooves or a bite, but it's preferred method is its antlers, which are best used when it charges. As a Vivosaur, it comes affiliated with the wind element, and thus is capable of shooting a concentrated beam of wind. It seems to withstand water attacks quite well, but it's particularly weak to earth and stone based abilities.
If defeated in combat, Ceros does not die - instead, it reverts into a small token with an image of Ceros on it. In this form, Ceros cannot be harmed and will recover. While it can be summoned again, it will be in poor health, so Azalea usually only summons it once it's fully rested. Ceros does not have to be defeated to take this medal form; this is typically how Azalea carries it around when it's not summoned.
While Ceros is a powerful ally, Azalea mostly relies on it for transport or carrying supplies. It's good at charging into battle, tanking hits and protecting Azalea and her comrades, but its large size also makes it difficult for him to fight in cramped spaces, especially dungeons.
Weaknesses:
Azalea typically dislikes fighting herself. She's more versed in relying on Ceros to fight for her. Even with a magical girl form, she can still be taken out by lethal means with conventional weapons. If she were to fight in close quarters combat, she'd typically prefer to be in a group with other people. Catching her off guard without her magic pickaxe or without Ceros summoned is a surefire way to easily subdue her.
History:
Azalea's life changed when she received a dinosaur for her 16th birthday. It was a special sort of dinosaur; revived from an ancient fossil using alien technology, the resulting creature was reborn with elemental powers. These revived dinosaurs were called Vivosaurs to differentiate them from their ancient counterparts, and Azalea had received a docile one called Tsintao. She was wary at first, but after an incident with a peer who had mocked her new companion, Azalea found herself endeared with the strange, goofy creature, and it became her closest friend.
Several years later, Azalea visited a chain of islands that was rich with fossils, hoping to find more Vivosaur companions for Tsintao. There, she'd made a variety of friends and allies, though a chance encounter with a certain trio dragged her into a plot bigger than she had expected. The trio of Veil Rosario, Raid Warren and Echo Blackmoore was primarily led by Echo, a self proclaimed archeologist researching an ancient sorcerer. After Echo's latent magic temporarily awakened, he was framed as a villain after the incident and was later hunted down by a mysterious organization called The Order. Veil, Raid and Azalea were captured by this group, though it allowed Echo to get away.
Azalea was later able to escape when she accidentally awakened her pickaxe's magical girl powers, joining Echo and several others to combat The Order, which turned out to be the true threat all along. After taking them down, the excitement gradually settled and Azalea eventually parted ways from Echo and his friends. The incident however had made Azalea realize she couldn't simply rely on Vivosaurs to protect her. Tsintao especially had done its part, but Azalea couldn't bear to see it get hurt anymore. After spending some time and thinking over the events of what had happened on the islands, Azalea decided to retire Tsintao from fighting and desired to start learning how to defend herself.
From there, Azalea moved to Aster City in order to learn from magic users in the Adventurer Guild. She wasn't terribly fond of her magical girl form, but she learned that her magical pickaxe could still function as a wand. Lacking confidence at tackling dungeon dangers alone, Azalea also ended up falling back on using a Vivosaur, albeit a smaller one: Ceros. Rather than a full sized dinosaur, Ceros was a megafauna that Azalea could ride or fight alongside in combat.
Together with Ceros, Azalea's slowly been learning to become a more competent fighter, but she still has a long way to go. She was a bit surprised to find that Echo's also been registered in the Adventurer Guild, and has found some comfort in knowing there was at least one person she could potentially work with...
Anything else:
- Azalea was probably closest with Veil, as they shared the most interests. He was an avid fanfiction writer and dating sim enjoyer, and it was no secret he thought Azalea and Echo would be a cute couple.
- Azalea was originally the main protagonist of a Fossil Fighters fanfic that I never finished and TDD will forever hold over my head for it lmao
