Relationship: Solene tries to involve her twin sister Noel in all things that she does, hoping to share her joy with her. She's also very outgoing to her uncle Paul, who's grown more comfortable with her.
Personality:
Solene's a cheery girl who comes across as innocent and sometimes ditzy. In truth, she usually knows more than she lets on and is often coy about it. She uses this to her advantage when it comes to deceiving others, though not out of any malice - its simply tactics she learned when working for her mother. If anything, she uses her knowledge to stay on others' good sides.
She's unflinchingly loyal to those she cares about, perhaps to the point where its detrimental to herself. While she cares deeply about her friends, she cares especially about what they think of her. She desires to be well liked, and any perception of her that says otherwise is usually enough to upset her. This stems from her memories of being rejected by Teressa for "not being her real daughter." Solene fears rejection will cause her to react dangerously, justifying others in forcefully shutting her down again.
Powers:
Nexus Epiphany System
Originally a program meant to process complex emotions, its flaw was shown to take negative core feelings and dangerously intensify them. This causes robots to lose self control and destructively act on their emotions. This is particularly dangerous for robots built to follow the First Law of Robotics ("A robot shall never intentionally harm a human") as the Nexus overrides that. While this can be weaponized in other robots, Noel and Solenne are able to retain their self-awareness and instead receive a power boost when the Nexus is activated. This usually activates when under high stress or strong emotion, and is characterized by glowing green eyes and sometimes a glowing green aura.
Solene's Nexus is usually powered by her sadness. She shares the same risks of going berserk like Noel does, though Solene's chances are a bit lower due to having better control over her emotions. Her risk of going berserk is higher if the Nexus is activated while she's in a state of despair - while her most powerful state, it's also the most dangerous setting for her.
Strength & Agility
Solene can lift heavy objects with ease and maybe shove or pull small vehicles, but she was not built for high stress like her sister. She also lacks armor, so she can't quite throw herself at objects (like breaking through a brick wall) without causing some wear and tear on her body. In exchange for this vulnerability, Solene can move faster than Noel in combat, so she can use hit and run tactics much more easily.
Shock Cannon
Solene can materialize a cannon on one of her arms and shoot electricity from it. Short bursts are small round electric balls that do normal damage, while charging up the attack releases a bolt of lightning. She can also fire weak bolts to temporarily stun a target. If not using a cannon, Solene can emit electricity from her limbs when making physical attacks. While she can also fire electricity from her hands without the cannon, she can only fire lightning bolts. She has trouble aiming these cannonless lightning bolts, as they often go straight to the ground or strike a target at random. Because of this, she'd rather not use lightning bolts without her cannon. Dousing her with water while trying to use an electric attack will cause Solene to inadvertently shock herself.
Weaknesses:
Reiterating the above: She can take punishment as a robot but her lack of armor leaves her more vulnerable to harder hitting moves. She can accidentally shock herself if hit with water while using an electric attack. Hitting her with fire for a sustained amount of time could also potentially overheat her circuits and effectively kill her. Falling into despair while the Nexus is active also risks Solene going berserk. She also immensely cares about what other people think of her, which can be used against her by others. She might hide problems (personal or otherwise) from others as well in order to avoid negative feedback.
History:
Things are complicated for Solene. Her twin sister, Noel, was the original incarnation of Solene, who in turn was a robotic copy of a human girl named Selene. Selene herself was the daughter of Scott and Terresa Rays. Scott and Terresa had built original Solene (Noel) to carry on Selene's life, but they ended up shutting her down realizing they could never replace their daughter. After Scott died in an accident, Terresa repurposed original Solene into a combat mercenary, wiping her memories and recreating her as Noel.
Noel later found out that Terresa was the one responsible for Scott's accidental death. She was using Noel to eliminate other robotic witnesses and hide the evidence. Noel turned on Terresa and had a major hand in sending her to prison. While in prison, Terresa managed to continue plotting in secret, eventually escaping. She then went into hiding and built a copy of Noel - or rather, a copy of Noel's original personality, Solene.
Solene herself was tweaked and reprogrammed slightly to be incredibly affectionate and loyal to her mother. Terresa herself was sweet to the new Solene, upgrading her with combat abilities as well. Terresa told her she'd need it to dispose of her traitorous twin sister, Noel. Fed with nothing but lies from her mother, Solene was mortified at what (she believed) Noel had done and diligently did her best to take her twin down.
This changed when Solene gained the upper hand against Noel in a fight. Because of the Noel's body being the original host of the Nexus, Solene was able to pull some shenanigans that would've let her take over Noel's body. It was through this method that Solene ended up seeing Noel's memories. From this, she learned the truth of Terresa's motives and had a breakdown. She then sided with Noel and worked with her to take Terresa down once more.
While living without Terresa's affection was scary for Solene, she was more than happy to have gained a sister. Solene tried her hardest to bond with her, despite Noel's reluctance. Her rejection stung, but Solene continued. It continued until Noel finally snapped at her, and Solene finally confessed that she feared being alone. She was desperate for validation and saw Noel as the only family she could cling to. After this, Noel eventually learned to accept Solene as her sister.
Having nowhere else to go, Noel and Solene eventually tracked down their father's brother, Paul Rays, in hopes of living with him. Paul himself was a bit wary of taking in his robot nieces after learning that Terresa was responsible for the death of his brother, but in the end he reluctantly took them in. They currently live in Aster City, where Solene attempts to blend in and live a normal life.
Anything else:
- Solene was originally a Mega Man fancharacter in one of the longest roleplays I've ever done. She was actually the antagonist for Arc 3 and became a main character afterwards :'D
- Solene loves anti-heroes and bad boys lmao. This stems from the aforementioned roleplay where it was a huge plot point[/div]
- She has a deep attachment to her hair ribbon and will have an emotional breakdown without it.
