Relationship: She usually seems annoyed with her twin sister's antics, but Noel does care deeply for her. She also had a rough start with her uncle Paul, but she's since grown fond of him.
Personality:
Noel's a serious sort. She seems to be easily irritated and rather prickly, often preferring to be left alone. In contrast to her rough exterior, she possesses an overwhelming sense of justice, though she might be misguided at times. She's very much a "shoot first, ask questions later" type and, despite her ideals, Noel's more than willing to use underhanded methods if needed.
Noel has a notably destructive temper. While it's a slow burn, once it reaches a boiling point, she tends to explode with anger. Since her emotions directly affect her current level of power, Noel struggles to keep these emotions in check in order to avoid endangering others. When something irritates her, she's very blunt about making it known.
She has difficulty opening up to others and is usually cynical about people's intentions, no matter how good they seem. However, if one manages to earn her trust... she'll still be a bit prickly, but more likely to be slightly more open to them, subtle as it may be. She cares deeply about family and those close to her, and would absolutely throw herself into combat to protect them with her life.
Powers:
Nexus Epiphany System
Originally a program meant to process complex emotions, its flaw was shown to take negative core feelings and dangerously intensify them. This causes robots to lose self control and destructively act on their emotions. This is particularly dangerous for robots built to follow the First Law of Robotics ("A robot shall never intentionally harm a human") as the Nexus overrides that. While this can be weaponized in other robots, Noel and Solene are able to retain their self-awareness and instead receive a power boost when the Nexus is activated. This usually activates when under high stress or strong emotion, and is characterized by glowing green eyes and sometimes a glowing green aura.
Noel's Nexus is usually powered by her anger. While she does have self-control compared to infected robots, she walks a thin line. She must rely on thoughts of her sister, uncle or a better cause to keep her grounded, otherwise she risks ully giving into her emotions with destructive results.
Strength & Durability
As a robot repurposed for combat, Noel was built to handle high physical stress. Depending on the current power state of the Nexus, she has enough physical power to smash through brick walls or wreck a moderate sized car, though she has a bit more trouble lifting a vehicle. With her armor, she can also take high amounts of physical punishment, but elemental attacks wear her down faster.
Wrestling Proficiency
Noel's attack repertoire primarily focuses on wrestling an opponent. If forced to face a human, she'll typically hold back and focus on keeping them restrained or knock them unconscious.
Ice Cannon
Noel can transform one of her arms into an arm cannon and shoot an ice beam from it. Short bursts do normal ice damage, while charging up a shot unleashes a stronger ice attack. The charged version can do bigger damage or freeze a foe. If not using her arm cannon, Noel can imbue her punches or kicks with ice, but she can't use ice as a projectile. She also cannot freeze a large surface area with her physical ice attacks. Fire is an easy counter to these attacks, while dowsing her with water can actually hinder her ice abilities as well.
Weaknesses:
Elemental attacks wear her down more quickly, while prolonged exposure to fire risks overheating/melting her insides and killing her all together. Aside from this, Noel is incredibly stubborn. She tends to hone in on a task and focus on it until its completion, which is often at the cost of ignoring her own injuries. Combined with her trust issues, she usually refuses help when it comes to repairs. She's incredibly protective of her programming and is hostile towards the idea of someone working on her, as she fears them reprogramming her or altering her personality. She also risks going berserk if her emotions are not kept in check while the Nexus is activated.
History:
Noel, originally named Solene, was the first robot copy of a deceased girl named Selene. The human girl herself was originally the daughter of Scott Rays and Terresa Rays. In their grief at losing their only child, the pair had recreated their daughter in the form of an android as a means of "bringing her back."
After living with Solene for some time, Terresa realized that she would never be the same as Selene and broke down, seeking to shut down their replacement daughter and lay her memories to rest. Angered and upset, Solene attempted to fight back, activating the power of the Nexus in the process. Terrified at the destruction she wrought in her highly emotional state, it seemed shutting her down was now truly the only option. Scott tried to appeal to her emotions, and it only took Solene a second of hesitation for them to find an opening and shut her down for good.
It would be years later before Solene would be activated again. After the death of Scott in a freak accident, Terresa rediscovered Solene's body and reprogrammed her personality and functions entirely. She awoke as Noel, having no memories of her time as Solene. Once a cheerful, curious girl, Noel was now nothing more than a mercenary obsessed with enforcing a corrupt sense of justice.
Noel later found out that Terresa was the one responsible for Scott's accidental death. While Terresa claimed to want justice (likely the reasoning for Noel's programming), in reality Terresa was using Noel to eliminate other robotic witnesses and hide the evidence. Noel was disgusted by this, and was further angered by the fact that Terresa would be so heartless enough as to convert her "daughter" into a weapon. Noel nearly killed Terresa in rage but was convinced to let her live in order to truly be punished for her crimes.
Terresa later escaped from prison, pulling several strings to make Noel look like a wanted criminal. While Noel was on the run, Terresa had built another copy of her - one with the memories and data of the original Solene. The new Solene was overwhelmingly loyal to Terresa and unaware of her crimes, which sickened Noel. The pair fought several times, but the turning point was when the new Solene attempted to take over Noel's body. During that moment, they shared memories and Solene learned of Noel's pain from Terresa's betrayal. Horrified at the true nature of her mother, Solene defected, teamed up with Noel and took down Terresa once more.
Though the new Solene was more than happy to side with Noel, Noel herself wasn't as quick to warm up to her. Noel was still conflicted over the fact that she herself was reprogrammed from a replacement daughter to begin with; nevermind that Noel now had a clone of that original personality. Noel referred to Solene as "my former self" for the longest time to show her distrust and disdain, but Solene's loyalty and affection towards her eventually won Noel over. (She's not quick to admit it, however.)
Having nowhere else to go, Noel and Solene eventually tracked down their father's brother, Paul Rays, in hopes of living with him. Paul himself was a bit wary of taking in his robot nieces after learning that Terresa was responsible for the death of his brother, but in the end he reluctantly took them in. They currently live in Aster City, where Noel often tries to put her abilities to good use.
Anything else:
- Noel prefers keeping her hair up for practical reasons but it helps differentiate her from Solene.
- Noel was originally a Mega Man fancharacter in one of the longest roleplays I've ever done. She suffered a lot and now she will suffer here too (but less so) :'D
