Relationship:
He is a very private person but is fiercely loyal to and protective of his family. He hates Gaia Labs with a burning passion.
Personality:
Malik is a good man with a rough personality shaped by his unfortunate circumstances. He can be a bit blunt and abrasive, if not outright rude, though sometimes he just might not realize this. He's mostly curt due to preferring people to make their points as brief and concise as possible. This is due to his current lifestyle of constantly living on alert, so time is invaluable to him. This can also make him seem impatient. He hates breaking from routine, making him stubborn and easily agitated when forced to adapt. His tendency to stick with what he knows can also occasionally make him come off as naive.
Powers:
Fire & Ice Dual Powers
Malik was developed to possess both fire and ice powers, but since he gained them through Gaia Labs' early experimentation, they don't function as ideally as he'd like. Only his right side can use fire, while only his left side can use ice, forcing both sides of his body into different temperatures. He usually uses them in conjunction with melee attacks, though he's able to manipulate them as ball projectiles as well.
Malik can also use his abilities to create an elemental blade on each hand. He's highly skilled with the dual technique and utilizes it when a fight is dragging on too long, or if he needs a quick way of defending himself. He cannot use the blades for too long however; channeling them is a continuous effort. While his body is also always at two conflicting temperatures, using each element also forces each side to become hotter and colder. Sustaining the elemental blades for too long creates a larger temperature difference between the sides, putting extreme strain on his body.
Weaknesses:
As mentioned above, his body is always at two conflicting temperatures, which causes constant stress and discomfort for Malik. He wears an outfit that attempts to regulate this, but it doesn't completely negate the effect. Malik also doesn't fare well when hit by water. It can douse his right side, dampening his fire attacks and forcing him to exert more energy to wake up his flames or dry up the water. Water can also stick to and freeze to his left side, making it difficult for him to move unless he tries to dry it off with his fire or other means.
History:
Malik remembered little, if any of his childhood before Gaia Labs. He had learned to walk, how to speak, how to survive, and how to fight all within the facility. He would grit his teeth and bear any pain inflicted upon him, until one day... The pain manifested both ice and fire powers. While his new abilities enhanced his deadliness in battle, they came at the cost of constant physical agony. This amplified his aggression considerably, and when the lab tried to put him down, he escaped.
It was a struggle to survive in the outside world. Malik knew how to live off the wilderness, but when everyone was a stranger and thus potentially an enemy, he was reluctant to seek help. He eventually received sympathetic kindness from a woman named Margaret, who took him in. They grew close to each other, and she would later become his wife. They would go on to have two daughters, Opal and Ruby, and for years after, the family lived a quiet, content life.
That peace would one day be disrupted by an odd stranger. Introducing himself as Skarn, he casually demanded Malik to come with him, threatening him with Gaia Labs' name. Malik himself refused and attacked the man on sight, but he hadn't expected the stranger to pose an even match for him. Skarn held his own, but realized the same. When he failed to make progress, he settled for taking Malik's younger daughter, Opal, and fleeing the scene.
Enraged, Malik has since left home in pursuit of the man. While reluctant to return to Gaia Labs, he is determined to save his daughter. He is currently gathering his bearings in Aster City, and is now joined by his elder daughter, Ruby - though he'd rather she stay out of harm's way entirely.
