Relationship:
Zwei is loyal and sympathetic to Dr. Klaus but is frustrated with the fact that he doesn't favor enacting retribution - the sole reason for his own creation. Zwei's irritations are further stoked by the presence of Jedan, believing his influence and older age easily swayed their creator from Zwe's purpose. His feelings are complicated; though there is some disdain for Jedan, he can't entirely hate him due to him vouching for Zwei's second chance. He seems to tolerate his presence, at the very least. His relationship with Denomi is distant, though Zwei's content to spar with him. He hasn't interacted with Quattuor and Terry since they left years ago.
Personality:
Created with the intent of enacting revenge on Dr. Klaus' behalf, Zwei is a cynical sort with a firm idea of his own justice. He desires to enact judgement on the wicked, punishing those who cannot be redeemed. He might come across as a brute only looking for an excuse to fight since he seems to be more focused on inflicting pain rather than protecting others from it. This isn't to say he wouldn't help someone, but Zwei just finds it easier to intimidate those who are evil. He tries to avoid killing, however; Zwei's loyalty to Dr. Klaus is a constant reminder that not everyone is what they seem. Though there is thought behind his actions, and he does attempt to observe others before making his judgement, it doesn't always stop him from acting rashly.
Powers:
Eterna Shard
Zwei's power source that acts as his heart. It's focused on controlling the dark magic that courses through his body, combining it with Eternalite energy for easier wielding. It can safely assist with basic spells but untested with more powerful types.
Dark Magic
Zwei has a constant source of dark magic coursing through him. Because of Dr. Klaus' limited knowledge of magic, Zwei's spell casting programming borrows from Heliosoft technology and thus only has a small range of spells that safely utilize his dark magic. These uses are simple, allowing Zwei to either shoot orbs of darkness like energy attacks, or simply coating his melee attacks with a fiery shadow aura that creates a burning sensation on contact. That isn't to say he's completely limited, as Zwei is capable of using other abilities that were never officially programmed. There are definitely unknown risks to casting outside of his programming however and said risk only increases with the stronger his magic is. (See weaknesses.)
Shadow Shifting
Zwei's figure is his dark magic in physical form, evident with stray "liquid embers" constantly emulating off of his body. This viscous form allows him some shapeshifting, such as taking on a more liquidus state to melt into a puddle of shadows, or shapeshifting his fingers into claws. He can also create objects for himself with it, often using it as a cape for himself accompanied with a large, two headed halberd. These objects are more of an extension of himself however and thus cannot be separated from him. If an object does become separated from him, it quickly evaporates. This ability was not part of Zwei's programming, but as it seems to be inherent, the risk of harming himself with it is small. He can also technically use this to split himself up to avoid attacks, but he finds it too cumbersome due to his heavy armor. He mostly maintains a solid form, so he can still be hit as normal.
Weaknesses
As stated above, his armor is rather heavy so his movements are on the slower side. Zwei also cannot overexert himself without risking his Eterna Shard exploding. However, since his abilities are less intensive than Jedan's time stopping, Zwei can use his power for much longer. There still might be a different consequence of this, however...
Zwei claims to feel echoes of sentient dark spirits within his magic, most of which were wronged in some way. Their feelings for vengeance or retribution resonate within Zwei's own feelings, which may influence his strong beliefs. Utilizing a large amount of dark magic might give more influence to these dark spirits, potentially allowing them to control Zwei or at least cause him to go berserk. That said, it may be because of them that Zwei also has an aversion to light magic or holy magic; it's an excellent counter to his dark magic and it hurts him more than other means of attack, even though he isn't completely evil himself. (He absolutely could be mistaken for a villain though, which is probably why he'd rather fight evil than help others and risk accidentally being labeled as a villain himself.)
History:
Dr. Klaus had put his hopes of redemption in the creation of Jedan, but when he perished at the hands of the failed experiment, all the man could do was despair. Dr. Klaus loathed himself for choosing to pursue such a selfish desire over the life of the android he grew to love as a son. Overtaken by anger and sorrow, his once noble intentions were twisted into a desire for vengeance against the research facility that had ruined his reputation in the first place.
In his mourning, he set out to construct a new Eterna Unit... One built for destruction. If others saw the doctor as evil, then so be it; he would wear that mantle and let the world feel his pain. During this period of turbulent emotion, Dr. Klaus was more than willing to look into unconventional methods, briefly studying dark magic in hopes of empowering his latest creation with it. His endeavor was successful, resulting in an android that channeled an ominous aura of darkness... Zwei.
Upon his awakening, Zwei demanded to know why he would assist the man who created him, much like Jedan did before him. He was far less patient than Jedan however and made it clear he was more than willing to simply kill Dr. Klaus if he found no satisfaction in his answer. The doctor remained unfazed - when he had nothing else to lose, death was an empty threat. Intrigued by his creator's broken will, Zwei listened as Dr. Klaus poured out his history, this time laced with disdain and hatred for the people who villainized him. He made it clear that he wanted revenge - a goal that Zwei was more than eager to fulfill. While the android seemed to be filled with bloodlust, truth be told, there was a part of him that sympathized with the doctor, resonating with his hatred. With the hellish magic that coursed through him, Zwei could feel faint traces of dark spirits within him that had suffered the same fate as Dr. Klaus.
Unfortunately, Zwei's powerful magic was dangerously unstable. He was unable to get very far without difficulty, leading to several weeks of magical maintenance. After all, Dr. Klaus may have specialized in machinery, but he was a complete novice to magic; something he'd barely even trusted or believed in until now. Once the instability was fixed, Zwei felt a completeness to him that prompted him to unleash a shockwave of power. Generated by the Eterna Shard, the energy swept through the base, pleasing Dr. Klaus. As the man rattled off a quick recap on who and where Zwei was meant to target, the unexpected happened: Jedan returned.
Revived by Zwei's Eterna Shard shockwave, Jedan admonished Dr. Klaus. The man himself was shocked and overjoyed, but his self loathing won out: he felt he couldn't simply turn back. Zwei agreed; injustice was inflicted and so it was only right that punishment be returned in full. Jedan tried to talk it out, but Zwei would have none of it and the two battled. Dr. Klaus stood aside, conflicted over which side to take. He ultimately sided with Jedan, catching Zwei off guard with a taser and giving Jedan an opening to defeat him.
When Zwei later awoke, he found Jedan waiting for him. Zwei was weary and defensive, but Jedan was nothing but amicable. He further explained some missing parts of Dr. Klaus' story, hoping to get Zwei to understand why he couldn't simply go off and commit murder. Zwei still objected to him, storming off. When he found Dr. Klaus, the android was disappointed to hear that he echoed Jedan's sentiment. Jealous and annoyed that his older sibling turned their creator's views around, Zwei was just about ready to enact punishment on his own. He stopped when he learned that Jedan was responsible for convincing the doctor to reactivate him. Surprised but still frustrated, he again stormed off - but never followed up on going after the ones who wronged Dr. Klaus.
The next few days were uneasy, but it eventually was clear that Zwei would not act against Dr. Klaus' wishes. Over time, he would occasionally show himself, making curt comments or interacting with his creator. He has a grudging respect for Jedan, though he's not above throwing insults at him when the chance arises. He seems to be gone from the base days at a time, usually lurking around Aster City. He still desires to punish the wicked after all, so he often spends his time in the city's shadows, watching and waiting for those who do the unforgivable...
Anything else:
- Zwei plays up his evil appearance to scare thugs and criminals. He sometimes clams to be a demon threatening to drag them to hell if they don't change their ways.
- Though his eyes and face are in shadow, he can make his eyes glow red as an intimidation tactic.
- Like Jedan, he tries to remain discreet when roaming about the city. Though he doesn't mind helping someone in trouble, he usually comes off as annoyed or irritated about it. This is because he knows the chances of him being mistaken as evil are rather high, and while he doesn't actually care what others think of him, Zwei knows it'll make it harder for him to hunt down actual criminals if he's being hunted himself.
