Relationship: Bludd has two sisters, though he doesn't talk to them much. He's recently teamed up with Spade, a long lost family member.
Personality:
First impressions paint Bludd as an amicable young man with an enthusiasm for magical studies. He's incredibly friendly and easygoing. He's also rather knowledgeable, often carrying a book around and referring to it every so often. However, beneath the studious surface is an obsessive man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants - usually a magical being for his own uses. So long as the situation is under his control, he will retain his friendly demeanor, even if in the midst of threatening someone's life. However, the second he loses his advantage, Bludd will back down and retreat. He is determined, but not stupid enough to charge in blindly, preferring to live another day and prepare for the next encounter.
Powers:
Magical Creature Knowledge
Bludd's work has led him to learn the lore of various magical creatures and beings. Though he does not normally hunt them down himself, he's usually knowledgeable enough about a creature's general weaknesses. If not, he'll usually need some time to research if he's planned an encounter in advance.
Armament Alchemy/Magic Artificing
Bludd's best known for his skill of converting magical beings into enchantments for items. This process works by capturing them in a crystal soul shard, which puts the creature into stasis. The being must be weakened or unable to move in order to be captured. Bludd then outfits an item with the shard to give it magical properties according to the creature - i.e. an Ifrit would give fire enchantments or resistances to weapon or armor respectively.
Alternatively, Bludd can use an external source of magic to form an entirely new item from the creature's crystal soul shard. The resulting item depends upon the being's powers and personality.
Bludd cannot do these enchantments on the spot - he requires various tools and preparations. Otherwise, he would need time to gather materials to do the process.
Crystal soul shards are magically safe locked so that the being inside does not accidentally explode out of the item if it breaks. Otherwise, this could harm both the creature inside and the wielder of the item. Captured creatures can be properly freed from these shards through high level disenchantment spells or anyone highly experienced with magic.
Weaknesses:
Bludd is not a fighter, and often relies on magical weapons or armaments to defend himself. He is otherwise a normal human and can be easily taken down by the creatures and beings he takes interest in. He's quick to retreat the second he's in over his head.
History:
Bludd was born into the Moonbay family - a wide spanning bloodline that claims to be archivists for the magical side of history. While this is a technically true statement, it is deceitful in nature. Much of the information and artifacts that the family possesses are often acquired through underhanded methods or even brute force, making the Moonbays infamous among circles of magic, mythology and the supernatural. Individual family members all share some degree of interest in the occult, but all of them take their approach differently. This can range from genuine fascination to extreme malice. A commonality between them is their tendency to somehow hurt the magical folk they take interest in, intentional or not, leading to the Moonbays' reputation it has today.
As the eldest of his own siblings, Bludd himself took to enchanting. Straightforward magic was easy - well, maybe learning it wasn't, but to Bludd, the end result simply felt like cheating. Cast a fireball? Call forth lightning? The power was tempting, but Bludd wanted a challenge. Enchanting items with magic felt like a better avenue for him, but it was simply not enough. What if he simply used a magic source to create items? He explored that route, but it was a whole complicated process for mostly the same result. What if he found a more powerful source of magic, then? But what sort of source could be so readily available...?
Eventually, Bludd found an answer: a magical being itself. He wouldn't kill them, oh no: he would simply imprison them into a shard, using their very being to enchant existing objects. This quickly made him very dangerous to those caught unaware, with many of his new wares ending up in personal collections or sold off to adventurers oblivious to the creatures that Bludd had imprisoned. He would become notable in underground circles for his craft, and to many he would come to be known as "the Magicmaker."
Bludd recently took an interest in Crow Blackmoore for his heritage. What started off as a passing interest quickly grew into an obsession and desire to capture Crow and convert him into a special magic detector. His stalking was eventually put to an end by some of Crow's friends, but once Crow was alone, Bludd made his move and followed him to Aster City. There, he intercepted Crow's ride home and attempted to capture him once and for all, but his plans were quickly foiled by a werewolf named Diego Lopez.
Bludd has been recuperating since Diego's attack, though he's been planning his next move all the way. He's allied himself with another family member of his, Spade Moonbay, a man known for capturing and trafficking magical beings. Whether or not he lends his aid to Bludd has yet to be seen, but one thing is for certain: a pair of Moonbays working together is bad news for a place like Aster City.
Anything else:
- Most names of the Moonbays are associated with the color red in some way, with Bludd's being blood.
- He was technically made for my second Fossil Fighters fanfic as an antagonist, where his main role is in fact harassing Crow lol
