Relationship:
Eden's relationship with her mother is strained, due to Nyx being incredibly strict and demanding of her growing up. She's much closer to her father, Cygnus, who was much more nurturing. She has an odd friendship with Spike, the first person to tolerate her abrasiveness, though she'll stubbornly refuse to admit to their friendship in words.
Personality:
Eden is a sour young half elf with a blunt, belligerent attitude. She is acutely aware of just how despised her drow heritage is - it was partially emphasized by her mother, but she'd gone and experienced it first hand growing up. As such, she expects others to show hostility or distrust towards her immediately upon realizing her lineage. She makes little to no effort to be diplomatic; she's very abrasive and maybe only curt at best. This is because she would rather push others away with an attitude before they have a chance to make their judgements based on her bloodline - as has always been the case.
People's quick judgment of her has made Eden distrustful. She always assumes others have ulterior motives when dealing with her, and more often than not, she's been right. Her militant upbringing has also given her a complex of sorts, adding to her own disdain of others for not being as "well trained and educated" as her. (Her own dread about living up to her mother's expectations is an entirely different story.) This is not helped by the fact that she barely socialized with people outside of combat, making it more difficult for her to communicate and empathize with others. Because of this, actions speak louder than words to Eden, and go a long way in earning her trust. The same could be said of her once she starts to open up to others.
Powers:
Low-Light Vision - Eden can see in dim light as well as a human can see in normal lighting conditions. However, she can't see in pure darkness like her mother can and would still require some light source to see.
Magical Sleep Resistance - As a half-elf, Eden has resistance to magically induced sleep effects. Given the nature of her odd relationship with magic however, it still has a small chance of working on her.
Weapon: 2 Handed Sword "Phaerdril" (Honored Blade)
Eden's personal weapon. She was trained to wield two handed swords and specializes in making critical strikes for felling enemies quickly and efficiently. This isn't always the case however. She tends to get angry whenever she misses, which usually disrupts her concentration and leads to her missing hits even more.
Durability
Eden is surprisingly tough and can withstand a lot of damage before passing out. Even when unconscious, she seems to hold up better than most others, making her difficult to knock out or kill.
Weaknesses:
Eden struggles with wielding magic. Most, if not all attempts have ended with chaotic results, leading her to avoid using it all together due to how unpredictable it can be. Magic used on her also tends to have varying effects, usually to her own detriment. They can become greater, such as her receiving more damage from a fireball, or lesser, such as her recovering less from a healing spell. Imbibing magical potions generally gives her more stable results, but they still have a small chance to go awry. This is mostly because of the magic of her father's Ancient Crow bloodline clashing with the innate magic from her mother's heritage, though neither Eden nor her parents know this.
Eden is also very stubborn and will often keep at something if challenged or if she's trying to spite someone. She will push herself to exhaustion if angered enough.
History:
Eden was born to Cygnus Hawthorne, a disowned heir of a magical family, and Nyxia, a refugee drow who fled to the surface from her underground home. Though Nyxia no longer lived in a treacherous society of drow, she still desired to raise her daughter to the same standards as her own noble roots. She set high expectations for Eden, giving her a stern upbringing.
While Nyxia hoped to train her daughter to become a powerful magic user, Eden found herself preferring the catharsis of physical combat. This point became the basis for many arguments between Eden and her mother, especially when Eden struggled with anything related to magic. Initially, Nyxia thought it was mere inexperience and pushed Eden to study harder. Yet, when external magic (like potions or Nyxia's own magic) consistently failed to have the expected effects on Eden, Nyxia finally relented and allowed her to focus on combat training. (Eden knew she was still disappointed.)
Unfortunately, Eden's strange magical resistance also meant that Nyxia could not cast an illusion spell to hide her daughter's true form. This meant Eden learned very quickly what it meant to be a dark elf in public. As a child, she only wanted to make friends, but the looks ranging from weariness to disgust made it clear to her that people were simply hateful and untrustworthy. In response, Eden would end up growing just as spiteful as the people who judged her. While the family would eventually end up moving to Aster City in hopes of reducing the malice towards them, it was already too late for Eden. She had learned that the world hated her for what she was, but she refused to give anyone else the pleasure of looking down on her for it.
After one too many quarrels with her mother, Eden would eventually move out on her own, taking up living quarters in the Adventurer's Guild as a warrior for hire. Her abrasive personality still made her difficult to work with, often driving others away. In fact, she's never been able to find her footing in a party for longer than one session... At least, not until recently, when a large man with a jagged tooth invited her to join up with him again...
Anything else:
- She was originally developed for a tabletop game.
- Eden dislikes magic users. This is partially because of her own weakness to/ineptness with magic, but mostly because it reminds her of her mother's disappointment in her for not being a magic user herself.
