Name: Kelly "Veil" Rosario
Gender: Male
Age: ~23
Race: Human
Home: Aster City
Alliance: None
Alignment: Neutral Good
Friends: Echo Blackmoore, Azalea Reyes, Antony "Raid" Warren, Zoey Jennings, Ethan Shepherd
Enemies: Raven Blackmoore
Likes: Girls, anime, video games, dating sims, writing, Chiyoko Uzuki
Dislikes: Writer's block, being snubbed for his interests
Job: Writer, Romance Novelist, and Paranormal Investigator
Relationship: He was best friends with Echo, though Echo is bad at responding to text and calls, so they've grown a bit distant. He still keeps in contact with Azalea and Raid, and tries to get along with Zoey and Ethan at his new job.
Personality:
Veil is an outgoing, trendy young man who's admittedly a huge geek. He's incredibly loyal and supportive to his friends - maybe sometimes too much so. He's usually energetic, maybe a little goofy, and approaches his interests with unwavering passion. He likes to think of himself as a charmer and an excellent wingman, but for some reason he can never seem to land a date himself. This might have to do with the fact that he can be a bit overzealous, especially when it comes to romance. Whether they're fictional or real, love stories are his guilty pleasure. He's not always consumed by thoughts of romance, but he's certainly been able to make a name for himself with several dozen fanfics and a novel or two.
Powers:
Veil has no powers, but he has some surface level knowledge about magic. He also has an enchanted ring that can cast a soft glow. It's best for illuminating dark areas without drawing too much attention to himself, as the light isn't too bright. Unfortunately this means it doesn't light up an area very far, either.
Weaknesses:
He's a normal human so he can be taken down by the supernatural, magic and conventional weaponry.
History:
Honestly, the worst ordeal Veil ever suffered in his mundane life was the fact that his parents had named him Kelly. Children were cruel creatures, so young Veil heard no end to the taunting and mockery. His parents brushed it off; they were ignorant of the severity of their son's harassment. They realized too late how serious of an issue it became, and it was inevitable that they ended up moving. Once he'd moved to a new place, Veil would go on to take up his current nickname. He desperately hid his true name and looked forward to the day he could legally change his parents' dumbest mistake.
However, once he met Echo Blackmoore, his name was no longer the worst of his problems.
They didn't become enemies, oh no; Veil was determined for them to become friends. Echo was often alone at school, and Veil knew how that felt, so he reached out to him. Their friendship started a bit awkwardly, with Echo mostly tolerating Veil's presence, but Veil persisted. Even when Echo assured him he was fine, Veil made it clear he would be a loyal friend. This declaration was put to the test once Echo revealed his magical studies to Veil. After he did, they found themselves constantly dealing with strange and dangerous supernatural happenings. And every time, Veil felt like he was living in an episode of Scooby Doo!
It was terrifying, but that wasn't to say Veil didn't have some fun. He, Echo, and along with a third friend nicknamed Raid all found themselves handling the supernatural throughout high school. Then, the events started to slow down until one day it simply... stopped. It was a relief, but it wouldn't be the last of their adventures. Veil would go on to follow Echo to a chain of islands, which would end up developing a huge ordeal in itself. At one point, Veil had valiantly served as a distraction, getting himself captured so that a wanted (but innocent) Echo could escape. Echo would then return with reinforcements to stop the true threat to the islands, eventually setting Veil free.
Everything turned out alright in the end, but Veil felt the need to settle down from adventuring - just for a bit. He would part ways from his friends, taking time off to pursue his personal hobbies. He needed to write. With all that he experienced, how could he not? He would take elements of his adventurers into his stories, eventually going so far as to use some of them in a published romance novel. It was nice - for a few years, he could write all he wanted, professionally or indulgently, and he was never happier. Sure, Veil would experience a few pockets of writer's block, but it was only recently that had it become a plague on his muse.
Deciding he needed a break, or perhaps a new set of adventures, Veil would end up joining a paranormal investigation team. What he experienced in the past wasn't exactly all ghosts, but with all of the magic involved... It was almost the same thing, right?
Anything else:
- He used to wear glasses and has since switched to contacts.
- He used to dress more modestly but in recent years has gone full anime aesthetic, especially for the paranormal team.
- Part of what started his friendship with Echo was that they both have embarrassing real names that they avoid other people learning at all costs.
