Job: "Spellbroker" (Magical Creature Poacher & Trafficker)
Relationship: He's related to Bludd Moonbay but he's not entirely sure how; all Spade knows is that he's part of the Moonbay family.
Personality:
Spade is a cunning man who is driven by passion - even if that passion is hatred. He is best defined by his loathing for magical creatures, and has a special animosity towards fae. This is his main reason for helping humans. He's very professional when it comes to his business work, taking pride in what he does. Spade is also very tactful and careful with his plans and wording, thanks to growing up around particularly deceptive fairies. This means he's also very resourceful. Some would call his methods pragmatic, others would call it underhanded; either way, he will not hesitate to use every advantage available to him when it comes to fulfilling a job. To him, he sees it as fair game: if his target has magic or special abilities and he doesn't, he's simply leveling the playing field.
Interestingly, while he spent his adolescence desiring friends, Spade seems to prefer solitude as an adult. He's had one too many people pester him about doing his work for free and has learned to keep most at arm's length. Most of his acquaintances are strictly for professional purposes. He probably wouldn't object to a good friend or two, but Spade simply doesn't care enough to make time for relationships.
Powers:
Magical Creature Knowledge
Spade is well versed in the lore of many magical creatures. He specializes in fairies and fae, though he's studied many other beings over the years. If contracted to handle a specific creature, Spade will research them beforehand in preparation. Otherwise, if faced with a traditional magic creature with no time to prepare, he'll at least remember the bare minimum rules for dealing with one.
Magitech Gauntlets
Spade can cast a series of preprogrammed spells from a pair of gauntlets developed by Heliosoft. Most of these are utility spells that induce effects like temporary blinding or physically restraining a target. It also has a spell to generate a shield that can nullify magic, but Spade has to manually pick the attribute it nullifies (such as fire) before casting it. He can hit a setting to nullify all magic for one hit, but he won't be able to use the shield again for a few minutes due to needing to recharge.
Hunting Equipment
Equipment to assist him in capturing or killing. While he favors a cold steel blade, he switches to weapons best suited to his target. He has a wide array of weapons at his disposal, but they're locked away in a personal armory. He usually only changes weapons when preparing to take on a contract. Otherwise, he usually carries around some form of physical binding, sedative drugs and a tranquilizer. His equipment is enchanted to make it more durable against magic, but parts can still be broken.
Weaknesses:
He's still a human and can be hurt or killed by conventional means. Many of his plans/fights usually require setting up in advance, as he relies mostly on ambushing and trapping. Otherwise, he's quick to abandon combat and retreat when he's out of options or in too much danger.
History:
Kidnapped by fairies as a baby, young Spade believed himself to be one of the fae. He couldn't understand why he had no natural magic. He thought something was wrong with him... that he was a broken fairy. His "family" - the one that had stolen him - claimed it was a bad omen, forbidding him from learning magic on his own. They said that he must have had no magic for a reason; that if he learned it, a terrible tragedy would happen. Young Spade believed the warning and heeded it, though he spent much of his youth feeling outcast and lonely. It didn't help that his "family" used this omen to justify raising him like a slave...
Still, he desired to learn the same magic his family could do. Spade would secretly study magic where he could, reading everything about the fae that he could get his hands on. As he grew older, it was through these readings that Spade slowly put together the terrible truth: he was a human who was stolen away from his true family. Angered by the realization, deception, and years of servitude, Spade plotted his escape - no, his revenge.
Normally, it was difficult to outwit a fairy, but Spade grew up around these fairies. He knew exactly how to deal with each one... and so he did. After all, the years of studying he had done in hopes to fit in with the fae had also made him an expert on vanquishing fae. He'd slaughtered his fake family with no remorse, ironically fulfilling their "prophecy" that "learning magic would mean a terrible tragedy would happen." He'd also finally freed himself from whatever enchantments they may have had over him. Equipping himself with whatever loot and armaments he could, Spade escaped their realm.
The nearest human settlement was a small town constantly plagued by malevolent fae. There, Spade became a local hero, using his knowledge and skill to capture or slay the strange, magical creatures that kept descending upon the town. His reputation eventually preceded him as more and more people approached him for help, and his local exploits soon became his profession. Spade had no problem with it - he was more than happy to cull not just fae, but any magical creature after seeing the suffering they had caused to others.
As the years passed, Spade would become infamous in the criminal underworld. The amount of requests made of him had become absurd, forcing him into exclusively taking large contracts for his work. After all, he needed funds for his supplies used to track, capture and kill magical beings... and it just so happened that the black market was willing to pay him handsomely. Nowadays, most of his work involves capturing magical creatures as trophies or servants, but occasionally he'll get a high paying contract to kill.
Spade had originally come to Aster City to fulfill another contract. He'd arrived with a mysterious young wolf in tow for his client, but it had managed to escape before the delivery was complete. Spade had tried scoping out the place in hopes of hunting it back down to no avail. It's been frustratingly unfortunate, but... After realizing the city and surrounding areas were rich with prime targets, Spade decided to stick around. If he couldn't find the wolf and turn a profit, he's sure he'd be able to make up his losses in no time...
Anything else:
- Spade was likely living in an alternate realm for fae, distorting the passage of time for him. He also has a slight amount of resistance to fae magic due to living in the realm for so long.
- He's learned he's from the Moonbay family, but he's not entirely sure where he falls in the current family tree due to the aforementioned time distortion.
- He developed a dislike of sweets due to his fairy captors' constant diet of sweet food.
- He still has sight in both his eyes; the eyepatch is just magical and is used for hunting. (What it actually does I've yet to figure out lol)
