Name: Pavo Delacroix
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Race: Human
Date of birth: 19XX
Quote: "I'm not only better looking - I'm all around better!"
Home: Aster City
Alignment: Neutral
Alliance: Kirin Canyon
Family: Sova Delacroix (Mother), Rene Delacroix (Father), Lila Valentine (Aunt), Lovise Valentine (Cousin), Connor Valentine (Cousin)
Friends: Lovise Valentine, Connor Valentine, Solan Noxborne
Rivals: Solan Noxborne (sort of)
Enemies: The vampire that ruined his family
Likes: Art, color coordinating
Dislikes: Vampires, germs
Relationship: Pavo's a bit of a momma's boy, and while he understands her reasoning, he's a little unnerved by her icy cold determination to avenge her husband. He doesn't seem to have many friends, mostly coasting off of his childhood ties with his cousins, Lovise and Connor. He seems to barely tolerate his coworker Solan Noxborne, who's apparently made it his mission to annoy him.
Personality:
Pavo highly prizes his looks and poise. His movements are always controlled and are visibly comparable to strutting or dancing, while he tends to gloat about his appearance and look down upon others. As a perfectionist with a bit of a temper, he also sets high expectations for himself and often lashes out when things don't go his way. This happens more often than not, so his attitude tends to be foul. Even for the tiniest of reasons or imperfections can set him off. Those accustomed to his fits try to minimize their time speaking to him or avoid Pavo all together.
Underneath Pavo's flash and flair however is a highly insecure young man. He suffers from a weak immune system and frequent illness, often leaving him bedridden. He hates this weakness with a passion, mostly despising how useless he feels.
Powers:
Innate Magical Bloodline of the Ancient Crow
He's been able to use small scale magic since he was young. This is because he's part of the magical bird bloodline mentioned in Cardinal Blackmoore's profile. He inherited this bloodline from his mother, Sova Delacroix. Bearing the name Pavo, the Latin word for peacock, enables him to properly utilize this ancient magic. Though he was not properly trained to fully maximize the potential of his ancestors, he learned to use wind magic from his mother and developed a flashy style to go along with it, described in the next section.
Weapon: "Peacock Plumes" (Combat Fans with Wind Magic)
A pair of ornately patterned battle fans that Pavo wields in both hands. They're mostly used in assisting Pavo in creating gusts/tunnels of magical wind, or small tornados the size of garbage cans. While the fans are made of paper, their frames and ribbing are solid steel, allowing Pavo to also use them as blunt weapons. If sliced at a target at just the right angle, the fan's paper edge can leave a nasty cut.
If the fans are moved fast enough, Pavo can also magically generate a blade of wind on the edge of each fan. This wind blade can be used at either close range, or launched at foes in the shape of a small, crescent slash. This makes Pavo's fans more effective as cutting weapons, as well as generally enhancing any other wind magic he uses. However, the fans must be in motion in order to retain their sharp properties. Pavo can only do this for short periods of time since he's prone to fatigue. Sometimes he's too blinded by anger (and fueled by adrenaline) to account for his health and can risk passing out mid fight.
Style and Flourish:
Wanting to be stylish and practical, he combines fluid, dance-like movements with a technical style. It's not exactly dance fighting - rather, his style is highly theatrical and meant to play to crowds. (This is mainly focused on the movements going from fluid to sharp stops, similar to this gif (click).) However, when highly angered, Pavo's movements lose most (if not all) finesse in favor of a straight forward, damaging barrage. He will furiously lash out at his target of his aggression, no matter how detrimental to his health it may be.
Weakness:
Pavo is more of a trash talker than an actual fighter. Despite his fit, highly maintained look, he is incredibly frail and has a history of poor health. He has very low stamina, which is the true source of his snooty contempt for physical activity. He also has several food intolerances and allergies that must be monitored carefully, or he risks anything from a few days of mild illness to serious hospitalization. He also has a weak immune system and is a bit of a germaphobe because of it. If he does get sick, it's usually enough to put him out of commission for at least a week; maybe three days minimum at best.
History:
Pavo is the son of Sova Valentine and Rene Delacroix. Sova's family is descended from an ancient bloodline of magic users, while Rene hailed from a family of vampire hunters. Though both families had extensive, storied histories, neither were a major part in Pavo's life. Sova taught little magic to her son while Rene's hunts were few and far in between. So, Pavo spent his childhood in relative normalcy, growing close to his cousins Lovise and Connor.
No one anticipated the sudden appearance of a centuries old vampire with a grudge against the Delacroix family. Having all but retired from his hunting to focus on his wife and child, Rene wasn't prepared to deal with such a powerful foe. The attack was so sudden that Sova assumed her husband had died when the vampire appeared before her; after all, Rene was the first line of defense! Sova desperately tried to fight him off with her own out-of-practice magic. She was barely able to hold her own, but when the creature descended upon Pavo, Sova fought back with much more ferocity. It was enough to get the vampire to retreat... for the time being.
Pavo developed a mountain of health problems after the encounter. It was thought to be caused by trauma, but even after time had passed, his problems persisted. He hadn't been bitten, but Sova had a strong feeling that the vampire had done something to Pavo... His mother tried to teach him some magic to help defend himself against future attacks, but Pavo's now rapidly declining health wouldn't allow much.
This became the new norm for Pavo. As his frailty carried over into young adulthood, Pavo grew depressed about having to rely on his now single mother. She'd taken up vampire hunting in his father's stead, hoping to eliminate the creature and discover the fate of her husband. In between Sova's obsessive searches and taking care of her son, Pavo couldn't help but lament about his inability to do anything useful.
He'd taken up art as a means of coping with his emotions. Surprisingly, his hobby quickly snowballed: painting led into design, his designs led into fashion, and finally, fashion led into modeling to properly showcase his ideas. Though still frail, Pavo found the expression lifted his mood and gave him motivation and direction.
Unfortunately, the rise to fame also shaped him into the vain, temperamental man he is today. Pavo had learned to hate sympathy or consolement from his illness growing up; he hated feeling pitied, and it wasn't helped that such sentiments felt much more shallow in his new line of work. He'd experienced several such interactions from peers and superiors that he took personal offense to. It reached a point where Pavo refused to believe anyone would show him genuine concern, eventually lashing out at anyone for even the smallest of reasons.
Pavo eventually gained enough fame and notoriety that he was recruited by Kirin Canyon and moved to Aster City. While initially contracted to design outfits and model for them, it seems he's begun to make small appearances in their media, too. Of course, he's still very wary about vampires and has several habits to avoid or check for them, but he's assured himself that his life in the spotlight would mean enough witnesses to deter any vampire attacks on him.
Hopefully.
Anything else:
- Pavo's (justifiably) paranoid about vampires. While he tends to look at himself in the mirror, it's usually his method for checking if others are vampires. He likely has other niche means of self defense.
- Even Pavo's close cousins, Lovise and Connor, aren't spared from his bad attitude, though he might just be trying to push them away. He tends to be more honest with them since they'd known him before his illness.
- His father is French while his mother is Scandinavian (most likely Swedish).
- Pavo was originally developed for a wrestling roleplay forum that never got started.
