Name: Jun Amano
Gender: Male
Age: ~45+
Race: Human
Home: Aster City
Alliance: None
Alignment: Neutral Good
Family: Mei Amano (Adopted daughter)
Likes: Coffee
Dislikes: Gaia Labs, Vares Wynn
Relationship:
He used to be close friends with Vares Wynn until he started to use Gaia Labs for nefarious purposes. Jun also tried his best to help Malik Meija, a metahuman held captive by Gaia Labs, as he was the only person that Malik could trust. Jun promised him he would protect and raise Malik's daughter Mei, who now looks up to Jun as a father.
Personality:
He's a man who seems to be more dictated by his emotions than logic, or at least according to Vares Wynn. This isn't entirely true; Jun is just as willing to look at things as logically and practically as Vares, but he isn't willing to step over his moral boundaries for it. He's definitely made some questionable choices during his time with Gaia Labs, though Jun deeply regrets them. He puts up an easygoing, friendly front to mask his ever present guilt and frustration at being too afraid to act. He still desires to do work that helps others, but he prefers to do so indirectly. He's not terribly thrilled to go out of his way to help someone if it'll put his own life in danger, but this is mostly because he tries to keep a low profile.
Powers:
Biology Knowledge
Jun is a normal human whose greatest weapon is knowledge. He was actually the head scientist of Gaia Labs' metahuman project, so he generally has a better understanding of how certain powers and abilities work. He has the best understanding of elemental abilities. With this knowledge, he can create substances that act as counters to some elements, or treat irregular illnesses caused by one's powers.
Magitech Bracers + Elemental Putty
A pair of Heliosoft gauntlets specially modified for elemental defense. They appear to be nothing more than somewhat clunky metal bracelets. In actuality, each side contains 5 shots of a strange, putty like substance. If faced with a foe using a certain element, Jun can change the setting on his bracelet to adjust the properties of the puddy to counter said element. He can then fire the putty at his target, which hampers their elemental use. The putty covers a small area about the size of a dinner plate. Said putty can be removed by hand but with a little difficulty. On rare occasions, a particularly powerful foe can disintegrate the putty if they exert their element power hard enough. Jun can overpower this by firing multiple shots, limited to 10 shots in total, but his weapon's aim is to slow down a target, not completely disable them.
If needed, Jun can also activate and project a magic based shield from his bracers. It can protect against physical attacks like a normal shield, and can absorb a limited amount of magical and elemental attacks. Too many magical or elemental attacks "breaks" the shield, simply deactivating it until it recharges. The shield also doesn't stop the force of knockback, so Jun can also be knocked over if the shield is hit with a particularly powerful attack.
Weaknesses:
Jun is a powerless human with limited technology to defend himself. He's more of a supportive character and can easily be taken out with most methods of attack, though he'll likely surrender before that happens.
History:
One of the founders of Gaia Labs, Jun wished to use his knowledge to help create metahumans that would protect others. Partnering with Vares Wynn, Jun acted as Gaia Labs' head scientist, greatly contributing to the facility's first batch of metahumans. Various methods of infusing powers were attempted on a group of volunteers, ranging from serums, surgeries, altering genetic coding and the like. The project was somewhat successful; though the group gained powers, they'd developed many health problems and side effects along with it. This made them unfit for combat, so they were released. Jun himself felt remorse that he'd only made their lives more difficult, so he ensured that Gaia Labs would continue to monitor their health and provide them assistance to continue living normal lives.
Over the years, Jun personally kept in touch with each member of the experimental group, developing friendships with each one. He'd tried to help them with their problems when he could, but apparently it wasn't enough. For reasons unknown to Jun, several of the metahumans snapped and attacked Aster City. Jun had little time to react as Vares immediately ordered everyone to round up the other remaining test subjects, using lethal force if necessary. He knew if the public found out that they were Gaia's creations, the facility would be doomed. Jun was horrified at Vares' priorities; he did what he could to try and find or protect the other subjects, but Jun's lone effort was no match for the entirety of Gaia Labs.
In the end, Malik Meija was the only surviving experiment. Vares desired to kill him in order to hide the last remaining evidence, but Jun tried to appeal to Vares, hoping he would reconsider. Malik disagreed, spitefully welcoming the idea of death after Gaia Labs had killed his family. In a desperate attempt to console him, Jun revealed that Malik's daughter was still alive, inadvertently giving Vares the idea to use that fact as leverage into forcing Malik to work for Gaia Labs. Jun was upset with the turn of events, but he did everything in his power to help Malik during his stay, even promising to watch over his young daughter.
Over time, Jun grew disgusted with himself and Gaia Labs, despite the success it met. Once it became clear Vares only desired profit, creating criminals as a means to keep their heroes in business, Jun knew he had to step down. He had no hope of fighting against his wishes: Vares was the one who'd made the facility successful, after all. He was the one controlling the company, not Jun, so the best Jun could do was strike a deal: Jun would leave and take a vow of silence about Vares' activities, and Vares would ensure that no harm would come to him through Gaia Labs. Jun also requested to take Malik's daughter, Mei, away from the facility to live a normal life. Vares allowed it, seeing it as collateral: if Jun were to break his vow of silence, Vares would take the girl back. Jun accepted the terms and warily parted ways from his former friend, leaving Gaia Labs behind.
Though Jun settled into a relatively quiet life with Mei, he'd never forgotten the horrors he took part in and is still haunted by guilt. He's thrown most of himself into continued research, looking for ways to indirectly combat Gaia Labs.
Anything else:
- Jun might potentially be experimenting on himself in secret...
- He might be assisted by Mav, another survivor of the first group of experiments. Thought to have died with the others during the crisis, Mav turned out to be clinging to a sliver of life. Jun snuck him out of the facility and helped maintain his health until he was strong enough to live somewhere else on his own. If this is canon, then Mav helps Jun fight against Gaia Labs.
