Honestly, it wouldn't have taken long for either Syl or Job to spot the mischievous thief. Yolette had perched herself on the roof's edge on one of the adjacent buildings overlooking the alley she had run into. She was watching intently, hoping to see Job's reaction and how long it'd take for him to react. But when he started to damn near run up the building opposite of her, well... She definitely felt her heart skip a beat. The woman couldn't help but let out a yelp filled with surprise and amusement as he neared the top in such a short time, too. Quickly recomposing herself from the moment of infatuation, Yolette backed away from the edge, playfully twirling the bag of trinkets in hand. "Oh, you made it!" She laughed, readying to turn tail and run off again. "C'mon! You want these back, don't youuuu~?" She hummed in a sing song tone, jingling the bag of orbs. "I'm actually willing to hand 'em over if, yanno..." Yolette pursed her lips, folding her arms behind her back innocently. "If you just accept my bodyguard offer from earlier, buuuuut..." She flashed a grin. "Gotta catch me first!" Yolette laughed again, taking off in the opposite direction. As she reached the other edge, she leapt off it, bounding onto the next rooftop and racing across without missing a beat. She obviously knew her way around the area.
And she wasn't about to let Job nab her that easily.

"You...what!?" Job shouted out in surprise at Yolette's absurd offer. "By the flames, Syl, have you ever seen someone so damn persistent about something so stupid? she makes a Lokendi army seem tame by comparison!" he growled towards his companion, though he didn't let the comically outlandish situation distract him for long. No matter how this ended, apparently, he had to catch this thief first, and that meant that he wasn't allowed to let anything throw him off the trail.
Once again, Syl flew ahead of the racing Job, determined to keep a bead on the fleeing woman, though she certainly seemed...less upset than Job was. In fact, she almost seemed amused, as if the theft of Job's means of power meant little to her. Perhaps she merely had faith that the man she had attached herself to would manage to pull through in this trial. Still, that didn't mean that she was not going to help her friend. When she managed to catch sight of Yolette, she dove down with surprising speed to her side. As it was, she wasn't able to do much, but still, she rose up to the woman's ear "He's up ahead, watch out." she whispered. She didn't show herself, and her voice nearly sounded like random noise heard on the wind, but she was sure to give just enough to hopefully make this thief doubt, if only for a second, if what she heard was real or not.

"Hah?" Yolette huffed out audibly, her head ever so slightly tilting in the direction the small noise had come from. That... was a voice, wasn't it? Or... was she hearing things?
...Psh, yeah right!
She may have been frightened of things that went bump in the night when she was a little girl, but she'd learned to get over that phase. Yolette wasn't about to let her imagination - or maybe it was hormones - get to her head now!
...At least, that's what she told herself. Even after mentally repeating it several times, she still couldn't help but heed the faint warning in the wind. Unconsciously, the woman's pace slowed, allowing her to better skim her surroundings as her eyes darted about. From what she had seen, there was no way Job could've just... moved that quickly ahead of her, but... on the other hand, Yolette hadn't been expecting him to scale the wall like he did, either. Maybe he had some extra powers he had been hiding...?
Or... What if he had the same ability as her?
That would be... interesting, to say the least.
"Wait, no...!" She yelped out, refusing to be distracted by her thoughts. Against her better judgement, Yolette glanced back defiantly, refusing to fall for whatever silly trick her mind was playing on her. While thankful to see the man was in fact still behind her, he was much closer to her than Yolette had anticipated. Internally, she swore, but externally... she couldn't help but flash a sly smile at Job.
She was definitely attracted to him, no doubt.
Unfortunately for her, she hadn't realized just how close he actually was - he would definitely be able to catch up now.

It would appear that Syl's distraction had worked, at least partially. The infuriating woman had slowed down ever so slightly, and Job was quick to seize even the tiniest advantage. He pushed ever harder as she gazed backward. He was close now. All he had to do was grab onto that pouch again, and he'd be free of this nonsense.
"Oops. Sorry, I guess I lied. You'll forgive me, though, right?" Syl giggled in Yolette's ear before racing back to Job. She didn't expect to confuse the thief again, but it wasn't impossible, so that meant it was at least worth a shot.

"Wh-?!"
Yolette... wasn't hearing things?!
Her eyes darted to the side of her head for a split second, but... no! Job was right there, damnit! She didn't have time to worry about hauntings or hallucinations - she was having such a fun time! She couldn't just let the game... end!
Luckily for her, she had been saving a special trick up her sleeve for this very moment!
"Yo! Handsome!" She called out to Job, her tone a bit more urgent than intended. He was about to catch her, after all - or so it seemed. "I'm not that easy, yanno!" The woman stuck her tongue out with a wink. "Don't blink, or you'll miss me!" She laughed. Just as Job was about to close the distance between the two, the thief spun on her heel and shifted her momentum. Whichever direction it was, it didn't matter; in less than a second, in the time it did take for him to blink... Yolette was gone.
"Yooohooo~!"
Well, maybe not gone - just somewhere... different.
"Hehe! Guess that spook was right... since you're ahead of me now and all!" Yolette giggled as she ran. She was suddenly on the path Job had just come from, though she seemed to be taking a detour over to a different nearby rooftop with a small tower. "C'mon, c'mon!" She laughed once more. Again, she abruptly appeared further ahead in the direction she was going. There was no indication, no trail, no nothing that she had specifically done anything to cause it - it just... happened. It was almost kind of like watching a stuttering video file, but... real.
Yolette stopped and turned around. "...Hey!" She called out, her hands cupped around her mouth. "This isn't any fun if you don't follow me!" She was too far away for him to see her expression at this point, but her voice gave away the fact that she was pouting. "I'll wait a little bit for you, but not for too long!"

Of course.
Now was when the woman's powers were truly revealed.
How irritating. Job couldn't catch someone who could simply not be caught by normal means, and yet, he had to keep chasing in vain, with some hope that this irritating woman would get bored of toying with him.
It made him sick. Still he would have to press on. He turned on his heels, and set off once again. Determined, even if it was a losing battle he was fighting.
Syl, ever the optimist, was less worried about the situation. To her, this was merely a challenge. Just another obstacle to break down. With enough trickery, something as simple as slowing Yolette down would be a breeze. Once more, she flew up to the woman, and whispered into her ear. This time, however, she didn't speak much in the way of words. Instead, she elected to be more of an unsettling force. She made ghostly moans, and otherworldly wails, meant to distract more than to trick. With any luck, she would unnerve the lady, causing even a slight hesitation.

Yolette had barely begun to scurry off when she heard Syl again. "Gyah!" She'd cried out in surprise, faltering much more badly than the first itme. Usually she was able to better surpress things like that, but today was simply a huge outlier in of itself. She'd recieved a anonymous threat, was saved by an awkward dork, and now she was... being haunted by ghosts?! The woman clenched her fists, stiffening her shoulders in frustration as she swore out loud. She was lucky she was so far ahead, or Job would've caught her for sure that time. "Screw off, ghost!" Yolette snarled, though the command itself was a little childish. Clearly Syl had done more than enough to distract her this time; rather than continuing on ahead, Yolette had started to scurry up a small radio tower perched on this partciular roof. Nevermind that it was a poor getaway route, but with her adrenaline pumping, her hormones raging and childhood fear slowly reigniting, it was safe to say that she wasn't thinking very clearly now. "Urrrgh...!" She cursed again, realizing her error. "Looks like the game's gonna come to an end..." Yolette lamented to herself, warping up a small ways. It wasn't like she could do this forever, but... she just wanted it to go on a little longer. Just a little. "Ugh... it can't just end like this!" She gritted her teeth, her knuckles whitening as she clenched at the metal. She kicked at the tower in frustration, then found herself gripped by a lone thought: surely he wouldn't... stab her, right? Another warp. Maybe she could just toss the damn bag at him and be on her way- "Oh shi-!" Her last teleportation wasn't so clean. Her hand slipped, failing to latch onto one of the metal bars. "No, no, no, no...!" Yolette jerked in surprise, inadvertently throwing herself off balance..
Suddenly there was distance between herself and the tower and she fell backwards with a terrified shriek.

"Just where has that damn woman gotten off to now?" Job growled, having again lost Yolette. In any other case, he would have given up. Nothing was worth this much trouble. Well, almost nothing. He needed those gems back, no matter what.
His thoughts were cut off by a scream from right in front of him. His eyes jerked towards the sound to find his quarry falling from what would certainly be a fatal height. If he had time to think, Job would have probably assumed that she would be able to blink away to safety, or that maybe this was just another trick.
He didn't spare any time to think, however. With a burst of energy, he climbed as high as he could before launching himself off the wall of a building in order to catch Yolette midair. Then, with her in his arms, he twisted, letting himself hit the ground with a harsh thud, so as to better cushion her fall. "Damn it...Why do I always find myself in these situations?" he whispered through clenched teeth as the adrenaline faded, and the pain started to set in.

The impact wasn't as hard as she was expecting. In fact... a pair of strong arms was the last thing Yolette expected to feel. Don't get her wrong, though - the thud was still loud and the force of the shock still hurt. When she moved her limbs however, she only felt a faint echo of pain that rang through her body; something she could easily walk off. As the woman quietly marveled at the fact that she somehow managed to not break her skull, she heard Job's grumbling murmur beneath her.
"Oh shit-" Yolette swore, yanking herself off of the spearman as she sat up. She quickly moved herself aside, still seated on the ground. Or, rooftop, rather. "Are you okay...?!" She asked a bit louder than she'd meant to. She loomed over the man, concerned eyes darting about his form. Nothing looked broken and he didn't look terribly injured, but... ooh, that could've ended badly. Her brow furrowed as she inwardly cursed at herself. Job seemed sturdy enough, especially with all that he did to keep up with her, but she couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at the "what if" scenario that began to form in her mind. She only wanted to play a game with him, not maim him!
"Haah..." She sighed, pulling away from the man and sitting back up. "Sorry," she mumbled, rubbing the back of her neck. Wait, why was she apologizing, anyway? She hadn't done anything wrong! Nevermind that she'd borrowed from him, of course. "I mean... thanks for, uh... catching me."

It was a little hard to focus, with all the blood rushing to his head. Still, Job could faintly hear through the rushing current between his ears Yolette's voice, and he could faintly feel her pulling away from him. "That's right." he grunted, holding on tight to the woman's blouse with one hand. "Caught."
His grip wasn't the strongest, but with every passing moment, it got firmer as he began to recover from his little stunt. With a burst of obvious effort, he managed to raise his head, and open his eyes to look right at this little thief. "Now. I believe. You have something. Of mine." he managed. He couldn't quite get a full breath in, partly because he was exhausted, and partly because of the weight of the woman on him, but he didn't gasp for air, and he didn't for a moment take his gaze off this little troublemaker. He didn't know if she could blink away while he had physical contact with her, but he was going to hold onto her as if that was the only thing keeping her in check.
"It might be a good idea to give up now." Syl offered, speaking invisibly into Yolette's ear once again. "I don't think he's playing anymore." she continued, obviously rather amused by the turn of events.

"That's right. Caught."
"What- hey!" She lightly swat at his hand, almost on reflex. "What're you talking about-"
"Now. I believe. You have something. Of mine."
"...Oh." She sat back, crossing her arms as realization dawned on her. "...I guess that was my exact wording, huh?" She mused, rubbing her chin in thought. She fancied herself well versed with half truths and loopholes in such things, but when it was turned around on her here? She... couldn't be mad, honestly. Job literally caught her and saved her from a nasty fall. In fact, he'd saved her twice already! ...Even if she wasn't in danger the first time, but it's the thought that counts. Honestly, maybe there was some invisible force or higher power on this guy's side... or maybe her side, since she's been the one benefiting from it. Yolette herself didn't put much stock into things like fate, but even she figured it'd be a bad idea to ruin whatever good karma was here. Besides, it's not like she wasn't gonna give his stuff back...!
Of course, all while she was thinking of this, she heard Syl speak again. A startled Yolette couldn't help but lurch forward in surprise. "GAH!" She threw herself over Job's torso almost defensively, covering her hands over her head. "Th-there it is again! What was that?!" She cowered, her mischievous demeanor breaking. "Job! Is there something haunting you, too?!"

"Haunting me? What are you..." Job trailed off. At first, he had thought that Yolette was just saying something to distract him, and get away again, but one look at Syl, gleefully sitting on Yolette's back, and he knew what was going on. He should probably thank her later for helping put this annoying woman off guard. Of course, that show of gratitude was best begun by not spoiling her fun here. "Can't say there is." he said, awkwardly emotionless, as though suddenly he was no longer angry or even surprised. "Maybe it's your conscience berating you for stealing from someone who just helped you!" that part of the lie came across more naturally, fueled by his irritation at this woman.
Well, now that the lying was out of the way, it was time to get back to the matter at hand. "Now. I think you are still holding something of mine...also...can you please get up?" he asked. It was...difficult to get properly irritated in such a clumsy situation.

"Can't say there is."
"How is there not?!" Yolette nearly yelped, lifting her head slightly. She'd turned it in Job's direction as best she could, opening one eye and peeking out from it. "I-I swear it was following meee...!"
"Maybe it's your conscience berating you for stealing from someone who just helped you!"
Yolette didn't even bother to protest the accusation. "I'm sorryyyyy~..." She whined like a scolded child, pressing her forehead back against the ground. "I was gonna give it baaaack...!" She insisted, her voice muffled against the roofing. It wouldn't have been surprising if it was just another lie, though she grew more quiet with her next words. "I just... I just wanted to..."
"Now. I think you are still holding something of mine...also...can you please get up?""
"Fine! F-Fine, okay!" She wasted almost no time in surrendering. "But you're gonna have to protect me, damnit!" She yelled comically, her composure and cunning completely gone from her tone. She was legitimately spooked, sort of like a panicked animal, and it would've been almost endearing (well, maybe not to Job) if it wasn't admittedly a bit funny. "I do not deal with ghosts!" She emphasized as she tried to sit up, though she remained low, fearful that whatever she thought was haunting them would strike the moment she raised herself.

Seriously?
Why did Job have to deal with people like this? For a brief moment, he considered trying to get Syl to scare this audacious woman a bit more, just for having the gall to make a demand like this after what she just did!
but still...she didn't seem to be joking around...and, well, technically he was at least partially to blame for-
Wait, no! Sure, Syl scared her, but that was only because she had stolen his gems! She didn't deserve pity, after what had happened! If anything, she was getting off a whole lot easier than she really should have!
That being said, though, Job couldn't help but pity Yolette anyways. Damn it! Why did he have to be such a sentimental idiot? "FINE! I get it already! Sure! Whatever! I'll protect you, just give me my things back! he shouted, hardly believing himself as he spoke the words.

"Here!" Yolette slung the bag of gems around from behind her, accidentally hitting Job in the chest with it. She pushed at it, partially holding it to stop it from falling off of him but mostly to shove the damn thing in his direction as quickly as she could. "...Oh god, are those things cursed? Is that what's happening?!" She continued to hold the bag in place but looked away and braced herself as if its contents would explode. "Nope! Nope, nope, nope...! Not thinking about it...!" She tried to block the thought out, her mind jumping to a different (but still related) topic. "Hey so, can it stab ghosts? Your spear?" She finally sat up properly, freeing Job from the awkward position. "Please say yes." She paused. "Actually, don't answer that, I'm going to pretend you said yes."
