Name: Yolette
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Race: Human
Date of birth: 199X
Quote: "Look, it's not stealing if it ain't gonna be missed!"
Home: Aster City
Alignment: Neutral
Family: ?
Friends: ?
Rivals: ?
Enemies: ?
Likes: Sweet foods, baked goods
Dislikes: Spicy foods, spiders
Relationships: In order to protect herself from recognition, her relationships are usually fleeting. While she means no ill will towards other people, she mostly views others as a means of getting favors.
Personality: A mischievous woman with a penchant for petty thievery. She's a bit stubborn and quick to casually play off problems, often running away from them if they're too big for her to handle. Though friendly and energetic, this is partially a front that serves to help her deceive others. Yolette's also not above using her femininity to further her goals (and is somewhat proud of her ability to do so), though she has her own personal limits and often sticks to idle flirting.
She's not too interested in getting emotionally invested with other people, however. Having spent most of her teen years deceiving others, her lifestyle probably shaped her mindset into keeping others at arm's length. However, since working her way up into a more comfortable life, her actions and thefts have become much more minor. She's also found herself surrounded by more decent people, making it easier for her to relax around others.
Powers:
Parkour:
Yolette can quickly navigate through an urban environment - specifically Aster City - by means of overcoming physical obstacles, such as kicking off a wall to vault over a chain link fence. This also helps her evade weapons, as well as help her run away from danger or chase down people. She mainly uses it for escape, though it's more useful when combined with her actual superpower:
Short Range Teleportation:
Yolette can short range teleport, or "blink." By default, she can blink herself 5 feet away in any direction in a spherical radius (forward, backwards, up, down, diagonal), regardless of any solid structure in her way. This is increased to 10 feet if she has a line of sight to where she's teleporting, such as looking through a window or glass door. This skill is mostly used for sneaking in and out of buildings, though it helps her parkour skills as well.
Although a basic power, Yolette's teleportation comes with many limits. For one, she must wait 5 seconds in between teleports. This is a self-imposed rule: while she can use it in less time than 5 seconds, the effort swiftly exhausts her and usually makes her ill with nausea. Using it again after less than 5 seconds is usually for desperate situations. Her teleports also carry her momentum, which carry both positive and negative effects:
Positive: If she was running, long jumps, and then teleports straight after, she would come out of the teleport at the same speed she was running. This helps her enhance her parkour, closing the distance between some jumps that might otherwise be impossible.
Negative: If she was falling from a great height, she simply couldn't teleport to the ground before impact - it would be the same as her still hitting the ground at full speed. She would have to try to warp towards something to grab onto (like a tree branch) or warp above something that could break her fall (like piles of garbage bags). She will also use more energy teleporting if she's in the process of already exerting energy (such as running away) compared to her simply teleporting across a room from a chair to her couch.
Yolette can also only teleport herself, along with what she's wearing, and a small to medium sized object that's lighter than her and light enough for her to carry. (Though, she might be able to push that limit in a dire situation...) This means she can't teleport out of small binds, such as being tied up with rope or bound with handcuffs, and would end up coming out of her teleport still restrained. (If her restraints were heavy enough though, she would probably be able to blink out of it. Maybe. It can be adjusted according to plot.) Yolette also cannot control her power when she sneezes, and will involuntarily teleport when she does. Unfortunately for her, she tends to sneeze an average of 5 to 7 times... Thankfully, this doesn't happen when she's sick, as she lacks enough energy to teleport.
History:
Yolette has little memory of her younger years, knowing she at least grew up homeless. A shy and dependent child who cried a lot, she was taken in by another homeless person who acted as her guardian. They enrolled her in school as a means of keeping her safe during the day, while all other hours they taught her the ways of surviving on the streets. Oddly enough, Yolette has no memory of her guardian's appearance or identity. She only remembers trying to scrounge up enough money with them, hoping to one day buy shelter or even leave Aster City to find a better life out in the countryside. This wasn't to be, however. Yolette awoke one day to find both her guardian and savings missing. She assumed the worst - that her guardian made off with the money - and was forced to struggle living by herself.
Still timid and terrified, teen Yolette was forced to sink or swim. Either she quickly adapted to living on her own or fall prey to the dog eat dog world she lived in, and for a while, it seemed like she would fail. Yolette would be easily outmuscled or outnumbered by others when it came to defending what little loot she could get her hands on. She also often fled empty handed, usually because things would quickly escalate to a point where Yolette only wanted to escape for her safety. Unfortunately, all of the running away with no pay off usually left her hungry and exhausted. It was only until a passerby showed sympathy for the sickly-looking girl, giving her some food. While Yolette was grateful, her desperation got the better of her, and she repaid the stranger's kindness by stealing their wallet and running away. Though it wasn't much, it was the first time she had managed to keep whatever she had stolen, inspiring her to change her tactics and igniting a newfound determination.
Yolette learned to con others through helplessness and eventually through her femininity, finding it much easier to have others hand their valuables over rather than trying to steal them. (Not to say she stopped stealing things all together...) While this boldness lead her to take on more dangerous situations, the stress of them eventually awakened her ability to short-range teleport, further heightening her confidence and adding to her repertoire of thieving skills.
She eventually swindled enough for herself to live comfortably, finding herself in better company. Now donning a cat themed outfit for her midnight escapades, she now uses her thievery mostly to steal things for others, taking their payment in exchange. Although she's far better off than she was before, she can't help but feel that a close encounter from past has come back to haunt her, so she's been on the lookout for a bodyguard for herself...
Anything else:
- Yolette's favorite customer is a bakery store owner. She often gives them bigger discounts in exchange for some sweets, which she admits is a guilty pleasure.
- Her most frequent customer is interested in rare, spicy ingredients for his recipes...
- Yolette is (unknowingly) one of Hal O'Connor's illegitimate children, making her half siblings with Jack Brunckhorst and also cousins with Izzack O'Connor.
- She has a faint trace of freckles across her face.
