For the first time since this duo had entered his home, John found himself surprised. That was...certainly a strange way of interpreting his offer. "It's quite alright, Mr. Engle. I have no doubts that I have had to deal with worse over the course of my career. What would one more be?" he replied smoothly, as if the shock of being accused of using his profession to fish for dates hadn't happened at all. "I'm afraid I'm not asking you out on a date, Miss Sierra. You see, when a psychologist looks to 'spend time' with someone, it tends to mean talking with them, in hopes of improving their mental health, unless directly stated otherwise. Does that sound acceptable to you? Just you and I, in a quiet environment, trying to find out what it is exactly that gave you these hallucinations you experienced when you broke in. I assure you that there is no obligation on my part." He promised the rabbit girl. He had to be careful not to oversell anything, though being too passive also could threaten to overturn his careful maneuvering here.

"...Oh." It was all Sierra could manage in response. "Umm... I..." She frowned, looking to Engle again for guidance.
"I mean... It sounds like a fine idea for all parties involved." The captain reassured her. "But if you're worried about being alone, perhaps I can sit outside during a session." He paused. "That is... if you apologize to Dr. O'Connor." After all, that was the reason why they were here in the first place, and Engle wasn't about to forget that.
"...Ah." Sierra looked down again. "Uh... Um..." She turned to face the doctor, her eyes barely glancing up at him. "I... um... Sorry, mister doctor sir... for breaking into your house..." The rabbit quietly apologized, almost avoiding eye contact all together.

"It is quite alright, Ms. Sierra. You were only trying your best to dispense justice." John said placatingly before turning to Engle once more. "I have no qualms with you being around, providing that Sierra is also okay with such a thing. I'm not one for refusing help when it could mean the difference between failure and helping someone." Outwardly, he was practically a saint.
Inside, however, he was certainly feeling more...smug. This was coming together much better than he had originally planned. Everything went as well as could be hoped. "Now, if that will be all, I do have a lot of work that I need to get to today." he said politely, if a little blunt. Just because things were going well didn't mean that he should risk it by having these two hang around longer than needed.

"I have no qualms with you being around, providing that Sierra is also okay with such a thing. I'm not one for refusing help when it could mean the difference between failure and helping someone."
"Of course, of course!" Engle briefly waved a hand, accompanying it with a small laugh. "I'm sure we can arrange something..."
Sierra bit her lip. How could the Cappytain just... laugh at a time like this? She was so sure of what happened on that day. She knew what happened on that day! And yet... There was absolutely no evidence that it had happened at all. Something was fishy for sure, she thought, and this was her chance to show Captain Engle! But... she wasn't able to prove anything. Did... Did she really hallucinate everything like Dr. O'Connor said...? The rabbit frowned as she looked to the floor, troubled. She couldn't bring herself to speak up, lest she'd get another stern talking to from Engle.
"Now, if that will be all, I do have a lot of work that I need to get to today."
"Ah, right. I'm pretty busy myself..." Engle mused. He looked to his subordinate. "Well, come on, Sierra! It's time that we get going."
"...H-huh?" Her ears jolted straight up as she was snapped out of her thoughts. "...Oh." She frowned again, glancing to the doctor before they began to make their way up the stairs and out of the basement. The idea of spending more time with Dr. O'Connor was a bit unnerving, but... maybe she could use the opportunity to prove what happened next time she was here. Maybe. Those chances seemed slim, however: if she couldn't find anything here today, then why would it be easier a week or two from now? She wasn't a genius detective, but even she knew that all trails eventually grew cold. Her ears drooped as she mentally grappled with the losing scenarios in her head. She hadn't said much since her apology to the doctor, and remained silent as they left through the front door.
"Thank you for your time, doctor." The captain gave him a quick on his way out. " Good luck with your work!"
"Um... Yeah." The rabbit followed, meekly raising a hand. "G-good luck...!" Sierra forced a smile before scampering after her superior. She had hoped this would've been the last she'd see of this man, but thanks to her own captain - of all people! - she was going to have an appointment with him...! If what she remembered was true, then... Well, it was a terrifying thought for sure. Meeting this man, under his terms and his rules? She gulped.
Sierra didn't look forward to seeing the doctor again.
