Relationship: Her adopted father was also her martial arts teacher, but when he suffered a crippling injury at her hand, she left her home out of shame.
Personality:
A self-disciplined young woman, her isolated lifestyle has made her serious, independent and frugal. She was raised to be honest and fight fairly, and tries to expect the same out of others, as she desires to see the good in people. However, thanks to a few underhanded encounters in her travels, she's become more distrusting and suspicious of others, and thus usually comes off as cynical, sarcastic and a bit rude. This also serves to cover up her lowered self-esteem; what was initially disciplined modesty ended up progressing into a lack of self worth. This does nothing to help her already poor social skills, which had little time to develop thanks to being raised in seclusion. She still means well, however, and will often try to do what's morally right - usually while grumbling about it under her breath.
Powers:
Martial Arts:
From a young age, Vivi's father trained and disciplined her under a mix of different martial arts. The style she learned was mostly a mix of Taekwondo, Judo, and general wrestling; the former emphasizes kicking strikes, while the latter both emphasize take downs and grappling. While her abilities somewhat limit her to standing up against other relatively normal people, she can face larger/stronger foes by relying on the force of their momentum and turning it against them.
Her kicks are flashy and stronger than her punches, while her punches are more accurate in striking a person, but her strength mostly lies in her ability to grapple other people. Although her ideal situation is to instantly subdue a foe in a submission hold (especially since she was taught to use her skills in self-defense or in defense of others), she usually finds it easier to counterattack foes and wear them down so that they'll lack energy to break a hold. Grappling a larger sized foe is also more difficult for Vivi since she must rely on her own strength to hold them in place, but if she succeeds, the hold will most likely be more painful for them as they're less likely to be flexible enough to withstand it.
She wasn't trained to outmaneuver people with superpowers however, and would probably find great difficulty with facing them in combat.
History:
Viveka lived with her adopted father and martial arts teacher, Kiril Touma, for as long as she could remember. She grew up in isolation, living in a small dojo in the mountain wilderness. Although this taught her how to live off of the land, the seclusion rarely allowed her to interact with others, using that time to instead focus on honing her skills. She lived a relatively quiet, humble life.
In her early 20s, a large, muscular arrogant man appeared at the dojo. Revealing his name to be Haakon, he declared himself the future strongest martial artist in the world, and sought to defeat Touma. Touma initially refused, but then declared that if Haakon could defeat his daughter Vivi, then he would face him. Vivi was intimidated by both Haakon and her father's request, but took the man on nonetheless.
Though Haakon was more powerful (and more than willing to cheat), Vivi was more skilled, using her grappling and submission holds to disable and take down the man. Haakon's pride prevented him from submitting to Vivi however, leading to Touma calling the match and asking Vivi to release him. Haakon's refusal to acknowledge his pain resulted in an injury that he suffered when in Vivi's grip - something that Touma realized, quickly calling off the match to prevent any further harm. Haakon could only think of his loss, however. Furious that the old man called off the fight before it could finish, and the fact that he lost to a weaker person (a woman at that,) Haakon stormed off, cursing the dojo and vowing he would get back at them.
While life returned to being relatively quiet, Vivi found a bit of pride and happiness at her win, inspiring her to train harder. Unbeknownst to her and her father, however, Haakon spied on them obsessively, hoping to find a way to make them pay. Once he observed their training regimen, he realized the perfect way to avenge his loss: sabotaging one of their kendo sticks by concealing an iron bar within it. Either Touma would harm the woman who humiliated him, or Vivi would harm the man who dared to underestimate him.
It was Vivi who had gotten ahold of the iron kendo stick during training, striking at her father's leg. Touma reacted in great pain, much to Vivi's shock; he always remained unfazed by her strikes. Panicking and racing to treat her father's leg, the two later found out that he had been crippled by the strike. As spry as he was, he still was an old man and simply couldn't withstand an iron bar at full force to his leg - especially if he had no idea to brace for it. Vivi was devastated with guilt, while Haakon cackled from the shadows, pleased with his handiwork.
Overcome with a feeling of worthlessness and shame, Vivi ended up leaving her father and the dojo in the middle of the night. She began to wander about, hoping to atone for her crime against her father, though she never did find out that the kendo stick was Haakon's doing. She's since ended up in Aster City, trying to help others and doing odd jobs for money.
Anything else:
- Though they had an old TV, Vivi preferred reading and did it often as child. She also enjoys idle doodling.
- Unknown to her, her adopted father Kiril Touma is at least over a century old. (She might've noticed that he's looked the same since she was a child, though...)
RP Appearances:
- Forest Grump
- Crossface Chickenwing
